I have a ThermoPro dual probe thermometer that I normally use for my smoking and grilling but am thinking about adding another unit, especially for my pig roast. During the pig roast I normally run 4 probes, 1 shoulder, 1 ham, and one at each end for air temp. I have been starting to look at some of the new bluetooth using a phone app especially the new weber iGrill 2 which can run up to 4 at once and the features look like just what I need especially if I can custom name each probe as sometimes beer causes confusion on which is which:;:cheers.
Anyone have any experience with these or other suggestions I could look at?

I just got the 4 probe igrill 2 for father's day and haven't used it yet. However, I had the igrill mini before and used it all the time for smoking and grilling. The app is nice and simple to use. You can pick whatever meat you are smoking/grilling or set a custom temp and the app will show your temp progress and give an alarm when it's 10 degrees away and then done. However, the distance you can get away from your smoker is only about 30 feet or something like that before you lose the Bluetooth signal. That really doesn't bother me much because my smoker is right outside on my deck. But for those who may smoke a distance away from their house, it probably wouldn't be very good if you are a "set it and forget it" guy. If you like to have a cold one (or 12) sitting in a lawn chair right by your smoker, then the igrill 2 would be a good unit IMO.

with most of my setups I'm usually not that far away, unless I wonder to the neighbor for a bit which is 200-300 clear line of site. For my pit roasts we usually have a few people around and I would just probably hook a tablet to it near the pit so again distance isn't a big deal

Most of the reviews on Amazon talk about the connectivity issue or lack of distance. I've never had any connectivity issues, but like I said the distance could be an issue for some.

I've got an AidMax 6-probe off of Amazon. The connectivity is much better than was my 1st Gen Weber single-probe. I don't get that far away line-of-sight, but I do often go from the deck down to the basement and so far I haven' lost the signal.

If there is any chance at all that you'll be more than a stones throw away, I would recommend stepping up to something WiFi capable. Something like the Tappecue would allow you to monitor temps from anywhere in the world. But if you don't plane on venturing too far, the igrill 2 is good. It also has different colored marker bands to put on the probes. In the app, when you are looking at temps, it has the probes labeled a certain color, so as long as you match your probes up with the appropriate plug in on the base, there should be no confusion.
