If you have. 30-06 those others won't do anything it can't.
I understand that, it's not a replacement but an addition to the collection. Any one of the rifles I already own would do the trick but I don't any of the mentioned and am looking for something to add.

Oh well then! Kimber or Ultra-Light Arms .257 Roberts, 6.5 Swedish or 7mm Mauser.

I have a 270 and 270WSM. The WSM is an ass kicker. Love shooting 270WSM Tika T3 stainless. Downside is availability/price of the ammo but that's up to you if you are willing to spend a bit more on ammo

I sure like my 270 Win. I've killed over 50 elk, 25 or so deer and 2 antelope with it. Nice thing about the 270 Win you can get ammo anywhere for it.

My 7mm mag with my handload berger 168's will do the trick for everything I ever plan to shoot at. Still haven't perfected my handloads yet, but they do the trick. Took my buck at 300 yards last year, dropped dead in it's tracks. I don't personally believe there is such a thing as too much gun for deer. My remington 700 synthetic is really light, so the recoil used to suck, but after the first trip to the range I installed a limbsaver pad on the back of it and now it kicks about the same as my dads old 6mm.

The nice thing about the 7 mag is there is a nice wide range of factory ammo readily available from 139 grain to 175 grain. AND, if you are willing to get into reloading, there are some recipes out there for 120grain rounds that really haul ass.

Damn right about the LimbSaver on the bench. It's weird. Muzzle jump is the same.

In normal years I shoot T-shirt from the bench with it then remove to compensate for clothing. I might be wrong but gave an extra click up elevation to compensate for cold powder: Whatever; I hold dead on out to 400 and would site a bit higher if necessary. 400 or so is my farthest kill and I held too high. Spined the bastard. No time for gadgets and clicking. Group should be 3in high at 100 then a shot at 25 and 50 to know your gun.

Don't ever hold off the hide unless you have the equipment. A doe tag is not an excuse to randomly fling lead.

I shoot a tikka 270 WSM as well. That sob can kick you into tomorrow. But I absolutely love the gun and the rounds my cousin worked up for me

Can't go wrong with all three of your choices thats for sure. I always tell folks that ask a 25-06 or .270 are great deer guns.
You did mention elk, 7mm or .300 win makes for a good all around gun in that case.
I'm a fan of allot of knock down power, can't kill them to dead. They will all kill with ease with the right shot placement and bullet.
Its when things don't go right is when the bigger harder hitting stuff comes into play.
But any of your choices with the right bullet will work just fine if you practice with it.

It's not as fun and sexy as a .25-06, 7mm-08, .270, etc......but the good old .308 is all the gun I need. 130gr TTSX @ 3200fps will kill me all the whitetail, antelope, and muley (someday) that I want. If I ever step up to elk or moose I have an option of a 200gr TTSX @ 2550fps that'll kill a elk/moose with no issues at all, with a well placed shot, out to 400 yards or more. Easy to reload, you can find cheap bulk ammo to practice with.

Looks like you don't reload, so look at the cost of .308 ammo (and options) versus a .25-06, 7mm-08, 6.5 credmore, .284, etc. (I haven't purchased rifle ammo for 10+ years, so maybe the gap has closed).

Thumbs Up Best bang for your buck if you like to shoot a lot and don't reload.

Well if that is the case a 264 win mag with the new 147 hornady eldx will make the others look stupid excluding the 7 mag with any of the nice bullet offerings it has. I like to shoot and practice alot so a gun that has recoil that isn't fun is out of the question. Unless given to me I would never pay for a 25_06 or a .270 anything.

I'm surprised we made it this far with only one mention of 6.5 Creedmoor. That's a hot little number that has pretty much made the 308 obsolete in comp shooting. And it will kill any animal in NA good and dead. Yes, gun and ammo selection is a little behind some of the more common (old) calibers you mention, but has come a long way in recent years, and will only get better. If you already have a 30-06, this would be a nice flat-shooting short action to add to your collection.

6.5 Creed in an AR-10 platform would be the cats ass.

Note: "cats ass" is just up from "cats pajamas" and "cats meow" on the awesomeness scale.

6.5 creedmoor ammo is cheaper for quality ammo than most others at this point. Being hornady baby isn't a bad thing. The new 130 eld has caught my eye will be getting some to play with this winter. The fast 6.5 and the 147 are really interesting. 6.5 saum at 3100 fps with that and now hornady has factory brass can you say killer

I have a number of rifles to choose from when I walk to the safe. I like my 270 Winchester, 308 Winchester, 300 Win Mag, 300 WSM, 6.5X284, and my 6.5 Creedmoors. My longest shot on a 4X4 deer was 758 yards. Travel after hit was five to six yards. I was shooting 140 Berger VLD.
The new Savage 10BA Stealth has a shorter throat, and an even shorter magazine. Because of the magazine I can't load .004 off the lands with my Bergers and if you don't load close they are not accurate. So I have switched to the 143 gr Hornady ELD-X. Accuracy is under 1/4 inch at 100 yards and the ballistic coefficient is slightly better than the VLD's in a tougher bullet.
The 6.5 Creedmoor is much like the 6.5 Swede and the 260 Remington. The shorter case holds about the same powder but because it's shorter it allows the use of heavy bullets seated out further which doesn't take up powder space in the case. It's becoming a pet cartridge/bore diameter for me.
From the choices your looking at I would pick 7mm first and 270 second. Don't care for a 25-06. The Creedmoor doesn't impress people at the muzzle, but sighted in for 200 yards it only hits an inch lower than the 25-06 at 400 yards. In energy and flat shooting the further out your shooting the more it eats the 25-06.

I also vote for the 270. Been shooting it since I was 14. Fast, flat shooting gun. Have had no issues taking deer out to 400 yards. I'm not a big guy and handle the recoil no problem.

just going to go along with the 30 cal crowd and say... 30-06 or .308 is the best all around caliber ballistics on both are so close it is not even worth talking about... the only real question is do you want a longer action 30-06 or do you want a shorter action .308... it'll kill anything in north america... oh yeah and because both are or were military rounds ammo is dirt cheap...

I debated the 25-06 once... then I looked at a box of shells for it and if I'm going to spend that much I'll go get a .338 lapua for a flat shooter

I would go with a .270 in Remington's American Wilderness Rifle with a quality scope. Really nothing in the lower 48 you can't handle with it. Ammo is pretty reasonable and you will be able to find it pretty much anywhere.

I shoot a 270wsm and a 30-06. My vote is for the 270wsm. It took down a coastal brown bear and an elk with no problem. Shot placement is everything.

Oh and if your on a budget and want to shoot holes in holes at 100 a TC venture rifle is hard to beat for the price that's for sure.
You can get them in stainless fluted for a very good price.

Like this one in 7mm for $410
