I understand that part of a new wall os installing sensors to detect tunneling. Eventually there will be a wall the whole way across

US-Canada border already has those , They are called Geophones . It's the same technology that seismographers use. When I was doing some work at the Sherwood port of entry they were installing some pretty incredible technology and that was quite a few years ago. You wouldn't walk across the border at night without getting detected.

I am 100% for better zero-tolerance border security. The wall is worst waste of money I've heard of to do it with that goal in mind.

What would you do to secure the border?

So what part of this wall is going to stop the 50% of the total illegal immigrant population who comes here legally but overstay their Visas?

Let's offer them statehood. We could call it Califexico!;:;popcorn

I realize that this suggestion was likely in jest, at least in part.

But let's examine it for a moment. If the time could be turned back 100 years, this could be a viable idea. We added Hawaii, added Alaska, and I don't think anybody truly understands the US Virgin Islands, but it appears that we at least kinda added them.

If we added Mexico, we would add their troubles - no doubt, but we'd also add their resources, their work force, their GDP, and do away with one of our longest borders. Our new southern border would be Guatemala, and I doubt that they'd give us much heartburn.

(scratches chin), hmm, this may have some merit...

Along with a wall comes a steep reduction in visas. /For the past twenty years we haven’t given a shit if they over stay their visas. If we build a wall then clamp down hard on those over staying it will become far less of a problem. And no welfare for those left here. Building a wall isn’t the only leg in a comprehensive immigration reform process. Ending birthright citizenship needs to also be part of it. Same with chain migration. List goes on and on
