The guy in the truck died the officer was sent to the hospital. I smell wrongful death lawsuit

Absolutely, horrible judgement by everyone involved. Unfortunately the police should know better...

One can say law shouldn't pursue people for small infractions (speeding, running stop signs, etc), but if they don't we'd see an awful lot more of people running from the law.

As it stands right now, people generally run because of something much larger than the observed infraction. They are either drunk, carrying drugs, have no license/insurance, etc.

While this sucks all the way around, it can be laid squarely at the feet of the pickup driver. His family sure wouldn't want me on the jury if they sued for wrongful death.

In a large % of these cases, police can easily get close enough to get the license plate and have officers meet the perp at home when they get there. No reason to risk innocent public by chasing people at high speeds unless the offense was major IMO. Actually more often than not, people who run from the police dont have what we would consider a 'significant' reason for running. Every year dozens of people with clear records kill innocent bystanders running from police for minor traffic infractions. Im not saying that running from police should be tolerated, obviously that should significantly increase the penalty for anyone caught doing so, but there are better ways to catch people than dukes of hazzard style...

Running traffic lights and rolling stops are "indicators" of Drunk Driving. I'm not saying everyone who rolls a stop sign or guns it on a yellow that goes red while you're still in the intersection is a drunk driver, but, it is an indicator for them.

So, someone runs a light (DUI indicator), then they don't stop but flee when LEO hits the lights, Stronger DUI indicator.

Leaving out every other reason this person may have run from the police, and only focusing on DUI. Now, let's say the police get a good ID on the plate and a solid lead on where "home" and possibly even "Work" is and the rig hasn't been reported stolen. Do they:

A. Back off and arrest this person later?
B. Continue chase until they catch or lose the suspect?

Again, looking only @ DUI, let's say you choose option A. Who's liable if the person get's in a wreck before police are able to catch up with this person a 2nd time?

Based on the video, much like Allen, the runner's family wouldn't want me on the wrongful death lawsuit.

Never would have happened if the POS would have just pulled over like he was supposed to. Obviously was wanted or suspended. Not the officers fault...he just doing his job in a world full of variables.

Pit maneuver at 109 mph? why didn't he just pull up beside him and shoot him the result to the perp would have been the same and the LEO would not have been hospitalized.

why is it called a pit maneuver? The cop would have had to drive into oncoming traffic and shot out of his passenger window then if he did explode the perps dome the pick up would have still been on its wheels under power. Spinning to the ditch not bad just got to deep on that left side and not on the binders fast enough when he tapped that left side. Either way guys cause of death was listed as covid 19

Many of the drug busts are a result of a stop for minor traffic infraction. The police watch for probable cause and never know what they will find when they walk up to a stopped vehicle. Could be a wanted felon, a trunk full of drugs, a body, a passenger that is kidnapped, a recent store stick up suspect, the list goes on and on. My brothers in law stopped a fellow here in North Dakota for going through a stop sign. Small town where nothing ever happens. The guy jumped out and shot him six or seven times with a 22 semi auto pistol. Police in Mandan took a 45 away from him the day before. He was in town to kill his father-in-law. The in law pumped four 357 mags into him. Two in the chest and two in the neck. The in law survived but spent months in the hospital and had pain ever after and dying at a young age.
