After eons of banquets and buying raffle tickets I finally won a rifle. ...rockon...

A Bergara-Wilderness-Sierra-bolt-action-rifle

I am not a gun nut like some of you on here.

I already own a 270WSM and a 300WSM in a Tikka of course.

I have the option of this gun or any other brand, in the same price range as the Bergara and in any caliber that I want.

Thinking of joining the man bun crowd and getting this in a 6.5 Creedmoor or PRC.

Is this a good idea or a bad one? 🤷‍♂️

If it's a bad one what brand and caliber would you choose?

Thanks

To me you don't own a Varmint/Predator cartridge. I would get a 223 or 22-250. And if you don't reload every sporting good store have shells for you.

You already have Deer, Elk and Moose covered with the rifles you do have.

6mm arc or 7mm-08. 😎 As far as being most universal and easily available ammo I'd say 6.5cm, 243 or 22-250. I'm kinda biased towards calibers used for both coyotes and deer myself but do love a good "drive around" caliber.

Get it in a 22-250! I believe they have a 9 twist so if you hand load it'll take 75ish grain bullets!

I think it comes in 6 creed as well. The slightly better little brother of the 6.5 creed

The 6.5 creedmoor is great. Ammo is very easy to get and relatively cheap. Definitely more than capable for hunting out a 1/4 mile or so. Will ring steel at pretty good distances due to being inherently accurate with those tight tolerances. It's my favorite to plink at the range with.

I will be the odd one out here, but I love my 6.5PRC. I shoot 127LRX for varmints up to 156 Bergers for Elk. My son shoots a 6.5creed and it is good, but not great. My vote is for the PRC and I think you will be happy with it. I won my first gun after many years in February at the NWTF convention in Nashville. Not as nice as yours, but a 7PRC Ruger American Predator.

What does the prc do better in terms of terminal ballistics than the creedmoor? Having seen two animals shot side by side with the same bullets i could not tell a disearnable difference when looking at the animals. Impact velocity was roughly 200 fps fast with the prc.
