Had anybody done DIY hole sleves for the ice castle and "fish through" covers so i dont drop my cell phone down the hole?

I am struggling with the idea of spending the better part of 200$ on the sleves sold in stores.

Thanks!!

Don't mean to be a dick here but, you can afford an ice castle but don't like the $200 to make it kick ass?!

It is less being able to afford it and more being butthurt about spending 25$ each for glorified buckets and then another $20 for bucket lids with holes drilled in em. There has to be an easy way to do it with out spending 300+ bucks.

And shorthairs, it will make it out this weekend. A little snow wont stop it.

Not many options. Just spend the money is my advice. The Internet will have them both for $20 or less each if you buy in bulk.

I hope u r able to do so moose. I had a wheel house in 97 I had to go on lakes with plows only and then it was always a battle coming off. Mine weighed a fraction of what the weigh. Went back to portable.

Me to man! Ittl Be about the only way to get grandma and granpa out on the ice.

Shouldnt be bad out east though. Mostly all they got was rain.... and the lakes were basically bare ice this weekend before that.

I've tried a few different things over the years. But nothing works great like just biting the bullet and ordering the right stuff. Make damn sure you get the right ones though. Catch covers will not fit everything. My glacier has different hole covers than my ice castle did. Now I have two sets and one set doesn't get used.

I don't use them on my Castle . I'm usually out for at least two nights . So the frame don't freeze down I lay down a squared up 2x4 pattern all the way around , drill out my holes with the ION and pack the slush around the holes under the shack and put the hole covers on at night . The only reason I pack the slush around the holes is the lake I fish is notorious for muskrats coming up the holes and believe me you won't sleep if you get 2 or 3 of them fighting under the shack ! With the tight frame pattern there is no draft .
