Unfortunately, I am not in the market for a custom dead stick rod. Otherwise I'd definitely consider one from Thorne Bros. or the likes. (On a related note, Scheels in Fargo now carries TUCR ice rods. It was nice to pick them up after seeing so many good reviews. Bit too rich for my blood, however).

So what's a good mass-produced dead stick rod that has the noodle tip and strong backbone required to run sans bobber? I picked up a bait runner reel and really want to pair it with a rod that will do it justice.

I was thinking something along the lines of a Jason Mitchell Meat Stick, but I'm a bit cautions as their toughness was put into serious question when they first came out.

And...GO!

I was going to suggest a meat stick as well. No reason to get something super expensive for a dead stick. That being said, my tucr power precision usually sits in the rod holder and I rip the precision. Anyone want to buy some thorne bros rods?

I've got a couple meat sticks and a scheels version meat stick, 20" and two 24" or 26" I think. Price vs quality seemed fine to me and had a lot of use out of them last year.

I had 2 meat sticks when they first came out. Both broke in record time. Maybe they fixed the issue, but mine had quality problems.

I don't think his rods are real great but they have to be better than what they were. Bamboo rods were better than his first ones.

I don't use anything but braid. If I feel it becomes too visible I camo with Sharpies. I preserve the spool depth with a saltwater quality bbl swivel like the line on a fly reel. If I wished, I could attach mono or flouro for the presentation. I don't: More braid from leftover spools and Sharpie as necessary (Double Palomar Knots). I don't ice anymore but would feel perfectly confident. If strictly after perch; I wouldn't object to one of those springy rodtip attachments.

I used to do fine on Darling in a parka dunking a lip hooked minnow on an 8th oz jighead (active and dead stick).

Oh, forgot your question...One can feel a gnat piss on braid.

I've broken 3 Mitchell Meat Sticks, all recent models and all broke in the same place. His other rods are OK but I'd avoid the Meat Stick like Dirty Mike avoids vegetables at the buffet

Correct. This will actually be difficult as it says it all. Much better than:
