Outside of shelter--yes--sort of... Used to smear lard on it (Hill's logic). Can't report anything special except easier cleaning with pilot gloves stoked with hand warmers. Inside "tent"--no problemo. You just must pay attention to your shii'ite.

More drinking and thinking: I recommend soaking braid with lard and taking the opportunity of hole dropping to learn the way of the baitcaster. It is ZERO fail with line manipulation and drag within established parameters. You ain't going to cast an 8th oz jig/crank into the wind but you sure as hell can drop down a hole and learn to use your thumb.

Still have it. Garcia 5500C with various reeds for antibacklash mechanism.

have owned a dozen various models since - MagForce, blah blah blah - there was a time when that's all I used (can you say DORK?)

but it didn't really - shoulda bought a decent spinning reel at that age - ha ha ha
