I hear all the time of people complaining that guys are keeping big walleyes, it seems to be ok if fishing a tournament but not ok if you are a "regular" angler. I would never judge someone for keeping what they catch.

If you prepare them the right way they are great, lots of people pickle them too.

My point is when there is money on the line, no one cares about releasing the big ones, but o my if the regular angler brings in a limit of 22 to 24 inchers. Angler be damned. I for one keep them and give them away.

Rowdie isn't pulling our leg. Towards the end of the last walleye boom in Sakakawea sandy flesh was very common , Some people claimed they had never caught one but they just weren't noticing it. I can't remember for positive but I believe our last day of fishing back then only 3 out of 10 didn't have it. the other 7 went in the grinder. I had plenty of questions but no answers.

That's the only shitty tasting mush I have found in a Walleye that came out of cold water. Unless you are talking about small lakes in August and shitty tasting fish.

There is a little point of contention however, in what you just wrote. Personally, I keep what I kill. I release a lot of fish, and a lot of people say "oh, I would have taken them, if you don't want them", to which I answer "I hate to rob you of the pleasure of catching your own fish".

So, I don't take fish out of the system, specifically to give them away. I do gift a few fish here and there, to elderly neighbors, but for the most part, I release.

Then again, we are allowed 5 per person per day (walleye of course). What you do with them is your business.

No, You at least partially on track IMO. Is there anyone on here old enough to remember Sandy flesh walleyes in Sakakawea ? It was the start of the end of the "Walleye capital of the world"

I will be on Sak holding a "Catch a Fish for Grandma" day...err, weekend.

Let's see, me + K + 4 kids = 60 fish for a two day limit. Not sure if Grandma would turn down something like that if we were so fortunate, and I surely wouldn't begrudge her a few fish dinners.

Only "sandy flesh" walleyes I have ever caught have come out of Devils Lake. And they've been few and far between.

For those that have never heard of it before:
