Years ago, my trapping partner and I snared a male fisher in the lake ashtabula area and then a week later we snared a female fisher on the same snare line. Both were released unharmed, but the male charged us after the release. I wish I had a video of the two of us doing a horrible Arapaho war dance trying to avoid those teeth. Now I see lots of trail cam pics of fishers all along the sheyenne. There are way more out there than most believe. Vicious and totally fearless little bastages I can assure you. Think 10 lb honey badger.

Couple winters ago the neighbor was feeding cows and saw a mother with a young one. Was thinking about getting out and walking closer to look at them as he had never seen one this close before but decided to drive the tractor over. Good thing because the mother took off running for the trees and the young one decided to charge the tractor, older tractor that is not quiet and he could still hear the screaming and snarling as it clawed and bit the tractor tires. Was really glad he wasn't outside with it.
I will say they seem to be more common around my area as I have seen a couple now as well. Badgers seem to be on the uptick the past 2yrs too.

AI said that's a Beech Marten ? The small head and long furry tail sure make it seem likely or possible. I'd never heard of them , they are farmed for the fur and escapees adapt well to the wild.

This guy showed up in our house and my Mom freaked out for our safety . I told her they are harmless only to have her tell a story that I hadn't heard before. The story goes that a weasel killed a baby many years ago in our area. I was playing on an old thrashing machine when I was a kid and one ran me off , guessing it had babies in there.

I used to have an albino ferret and he would go after cats like that weasel went after the rabbit. I was always amazed at how many people were scared shitless of him. He was a teddy bear most of the time and had the run of the house like a house cat….

Yes, they do have a distinct odor, even if you get their scent glands removed and bathe them regularly.

I had one named Satan for a couple of years, interesting critters. He had some of the sharpest teeth imaginable, but he also was very good natured. For example, I would often let him latch onto a finger and then just gently wave him around hanging from his bite on my finger. Never once did he draw blood from me, but I was smart enough to not try yank my finger out of his mouth. They really like to take naps in the recesses of your couch or recliners, so you do kind of have to be careful using reclining chairs, rockers, etc.

As far as sticking around? He got out of the house a couple of times and always came back. I guess he knew where the free food was.

One side benefit of having a ferret around, I guarantee there will be no mice in the house!

My niece had one many years ago , it was a barn pet in a cage but I remember they had an odor . The only other thing I remember about it is when she first got it , she let it go down a gopher hole and it ate the gopher and then took a nap. She sat by the hole and cried for a long time but he eventually came out .
