Leaving for Red in the morning...truck just decided to piss purple fluid everywhere

Duck. you have a power steering reservoir...most all vehicles do. And your right..when it rains, it pours...think we've all been in that spot before. Its just when it get this friggin cold for this long of time, shit start to happen to vehicles, just the way it is. It looks will be seeing some relief from the sub zeros here in short order, but I recommend everybody to at least let your vehicle warm up before you drive off when its this cold to get some half decent heat running through it. If you have a block heater, use it! Thank goodness for remote starts!!! I start mine before I hit the shower in the AM.

I think your getting the closed trany and power steering mixed up.

If it's a power steering hose and you don't have the ability to do it yourself, find a well respected private mechanic. Dealers are usually quite a bit higher for easy jobs like that. I had an Oldsmobile Aurora that spit a alternator. Dealer wanted $1200, private guy wanted $800. I ended up in a buddy's uninsulated garage with a knipco, a crappy floor jack and an old tool kit. I picked the alternator up for $256 and 8 hours later I was cruising. You had to remove the radiators(both of them), the right front wheel, inner fender, etc.

If you have a spot to attempt the fix, you can usually print the instructions from the net. That or most dealers will print that part of the shop manual for you.

I can relate to the original poster. My fuel pump (Chevy) decided to quit yesterday in the middle of nowhere.
Thank goodness for AAA.

I just had to replace the trany lines on my 2010 Chevy as they started to leak where the crimped hose meets the metal pipe, when the temperature got cold.

The point is, everybody has their preferences in a particular brand and experience with the least break downs. Like me, I like Ford, never have much issues with them and I usually fix all my own shit

Seeing as its purple you may want to check the washer fluid tank. Coolant is usually green or orange, tyranny oil is red. Lots of purple washer fluid out there. Power steering is typically red also. As for the noise can't say I haven't heard a power steering pump that wasn't grumpy in sub zero temps

If coolant colors are mixed it can look purpleish.. just sayin.

So, does the fluid leaking match the color of the fluid in your PSF reservoir? Or does it match the color of your windshield washer fluid? Problem could very well be that your windshield washer fluid was not the temperature rated stuff and froze in the lines, causing a line to rupture... Just a thought. Let us know what you find because I'm curious!
