Fished a lake today in central ND. Drilled allot of test holes wherever I went. Ice was close to 8 solid inches in the more open areas that did not have snow built up. Went to the other side with more snow built up from the recent winds, and the ice was barely 5 inches. Also found a few slushy areas close to the bank where snow drifted up the deepest.

Went to new Johns yesterday. Ice where I was was a good 8 inches. But be careful, you can still see shitty spots, especially in the middle where the geese were sitting, but also is bad spots in other places throughout the lake by a visual inspection.

My son, his buddy and I went to a slough near VC and found mostly 6-7 inches of good ice. We were the only ones out for half the day. Only one track of someone previously out. Later I went to scout toward the middle with a spud bar and found a spot with 3". Turned back to where we fished most of the day.

Beware and and be careful. I found out later when talking to another fisherman that there were geese keeping it open late. Fishing was ok but couldn't get to where we wanted due to the thinner ice we found..

Just use caution, ice season appears to be finally underway...just don't be too hasty driving out for awhile. It felt good to reel in some eaters (perch)!

Went to Audubon this morning (Velva bay area), we found 7 to 9 inches where ever we drilled, but there were people driving Suburban's, and full sized pickups pulling fish houses out on the ice. I've never heard the ice pop and crack like that before in my life, and I'm 54 and ice fish a lot. Guy I went with asked me if I was going to drive out, as we drove separate pickups to the lake. I said no way, people can call me chicken shit all they I don't care I'm not driving out. At least that way I can drive home. I would call the ones that drove out RETARDED!! ;:;badidea

Went out by Detroit Lakes on Sunday. Many of the big lakes either still had some open water or looked like they were barely skimmed. Found a smaller lake with some portables on it and brought my 2-year-old out for the first time. Good six inches at the first break in 13 FOW. Had a great time even though it was slow! Came home with two snot rockets and a fat perch. Can't wait to do it again. He's hooked!

Went to Height of Land last night, people were pulling small permanents out with four wheelers. There was about 8 inches of ice where we were. Not many fish though

There is a lake east of Detroit Lakes called lake five which has very nice blue gill.

Never dropped a house in the drink before. If there a way to salvage or is this thing a goner?

Good for the dumb fucker! Dumb enough to drive out on audabon right now, I'm sure he's also dumb enough to not insure his ice house as well. Wonder how long it will sit there. What a Dumbass!

I'd be more concerned about the cost of getting it out, which I doubt insurance will cover! There's always at least one jackass every year jumpin' the gun! I will wait for a couple more to fall in before I pull mine out ;)

I've been out twice now. Two different lakes in the Valley City area....ice is from 6-8" where I've been. Still found areas with less. Still not ready to drive the sled but getting closer.

Fishing has not been all that great so far, hopefully I can find a lake with decent fish today. Not asking for spots but have any of you had any luck? PM's are always welcome...I'll keep exploring until I find some good fishing. Good luck to all!

8 inches where I have been going on lake Patterson. The east end had about a 15 foot radius with open water right by the train tracks. Must be a spring there keeping it open. I haven't fished this lake much since the die off a few years back, glad to be catching a few eaters again just down the street from my house.

Lots of sleds and side by sides on the ice, and one clown with a pickup. I am guessing a good 50 guys out and about on the lake.
