We have the same thing on the Ballot here in South Dakota. Makes me wonder who is pushing this. Its a no vote for me.
Apparently they got 170+ other things wrong since our constitution has been amended that many times already. What makes you think they got 50%+1 right if they had so many other issues?Today I heard a very convincing argument to vote no. The person pointed out that our forefathers didn’t trust our legislators and set this at 50+% rather than 60. Its been that way since 1889. Every time its been tried to be raised it’s been the Legislature trying to change it. Not the people, the Legislature. So, tell me one time where giving elected politicians more power and the people less has turned out best for the people? I couldn’t name one.
They factor in because “they” want the 60% threshold in place. We should know if they want it, it won’t be best for the citizensI just don’t see how Measure 1 is a citizen vs legislature issue. Either citizens change the constitution with 50.1% approval or citizens change it with 60%. How do legislators factor in?
I’m not sure we can assume that since the legislature voted to put this on the ballot that we can assume they want it. Couldn’t it be that they agree that the people should decide? And what about that sketchy Fairness Project opposing it, how do we factor that in?They factor in because “they” want the 60% threshold in place. They cannot, its just that simpleCan the ND state legislature change the ND constitution? If so, what percentage do they need?
We would not be giving the legislature more power, it still comes down to a vote by we the people to change our constitution.Today I heard a very convincing argument to vote no. Right on sluggo!I’m not sure we can assume that since the legislature voted to put this on the ballot that we can assume they want it. Couldn’t it be that they agree that the people should decide? And what about that sketchy Fairness Project opposing it, how do we factor that in?
So our all our elected officials are corrupt and out to screw us over? Is that your position? They factor in because “they” want the 60% threshold in place. We should know if they want it, it won’t be best for the citizens
Explain how it gives more power to the legislators please.the logic behind measure one is flawed. They say the threat is really out of state money influencing voters, fix THAT instead of handing more power to the legislators. Its just a power grab dressed up as something else. Dont fall for the man in the dress with lipstick on, its not the real thing!
anything that takes power away from citizens gives power to govt, there are only 2 poles on a magnet.Explain how it gives more power to the legislators please.
I don't see it as any taking any power away. It merely means that a change to the constitution has to have broader support by the citizens than currently. Probably means that an issue needs support from both sides of the political aisle to pass instead of the bare minimum. I see that as a good thing. And keep in mind, we are only talking about changes to the ND constitution.anything that takes power away from citizens gives power to govt, there are only 2 poles on a magnet.
