Had the Field duck Tornado several times near Wildrose and also Quill Lake Sask. The young man I was hunting with had a very high Quality Camera. Started taking pictures and when we got back to his Family's farm downloaded them onto large P.C. could not believe all the different species of ducks in the photos ware you might think was mostly Mallards and some Pintails and one photo showed 4 in a flock of around 150 with leg bands. Nothing Better than hunting Christmas time Full Curly tail Mallards in Montana hot Springs

I do think the big winds forecasted for tomorrow will shake things up. Saw a big bunch of GWT today that I'm 99 percent sure aren't local. Looking forward to another jaunt into the marsh Saturday morning!

I talked to a couple duck hunters from iowa today near devils lake who told me it's tough all over.

They have been coming to ND for the last 13 years. I mentioned there are about 200 mud hens every day in front of our lot and they said they are in big numbers everywhere they have been so far.

I have been hunting Northern ND and MT and Sask. for almost 60 years we always went MEA weekend to Sask. Than came back around Halloween to ND. and thanksgiving to MT. that always seem the best to me. And Christmas to MT. for those fat mallards along the Yellowstone

I was hunting pheasant opener in NW corner last weekend, there wasn’t diddly squat for waterfowl. Drove home (Williston to Fargo) along 1804/83/94 in daylight and didn’t see anything anywhere along the way that would say:

“The migration is on.”

Buddy of mine went to Wyoming yesterday, and said there were ducks nonstop from VC to Jtown.

Now that's just from I94, but I think there are birds to be had if'n folks look hard enough.

I've only been "In the Tornado" 1x. I was up in NW MN hunting Ruffs, stopped by a buddy's place and another buddy showed up and frantically told us to get our poop in a group for an evening duck shoot. No decoys, just waders, a bunch of ammo, and a shotgun.

Mallards were retuning from a burned up oat or wheat field, can't recall. Couldn't shoot fast enough to keep the ducks from landing. It wasn't a big slough and there wasn't any ice yet, but, those ducks wanted to be where we were and by god they were gonna sit on that slough or die trying.

I've seen a few duck and lots of goose "Tornados".

Jiffy and I were deer hunting South Central ND '09 or '10 and the mallard tornado was landing so close to the gravel road we were on that with a little planning I think a guy might've been able to snag a few with a big fishing net.

As a mostly non-waterfowl hunter (fair-weather hunter at best), it's always looked to me like deer opener to the end of deer muzzle-loader was the best time for migrating (non-local) Web-Footers.

Trying to obfuscate for the Non-res masses headed this way? I-29 doesn't go from Valley City to Jamestown. :ROFLMAO:
