Has anyone ever tried the dog shampoos with permethrin with any success? Took mine for a walk last night, and the limited time he spent in the grass yielded about a dozen ticks. We treat him with advantix, but I'd like to do what I can to keep them off all together.

WOW! That is crazy!

Our last hike for sheds this year was SE of Minot, and no kidding, we pulled over 800 ticks off of us and the dogs. Worst I have ever seen. Our last stretch, my wife walked through 50 yards of grass, came out and picked 76 off before she even got in the truck.

We didn't have the traditional warm up then a couple frosts this year. I think they never really got culled like other years.

I put some drops on my dog a week ago and a couple days later he got the runs really bad and was also puking, several times a day. Unusual for him. I looked up side effects and it seems thats not to uncommon. Evidently it can even kill dogs in some instances. Not good. I gave him a good bath and scrubbed his back with soap really well and he seems to be doing better now. He weighs 60lbs and I got the stuff for large dogs, I think 50 to 130ish lbs and I only put half a vial on him...

Anyone ever use Bravetco or Nex Guard chewables for ticks?

We use chewable Nex Guard on our 3 yr old Springer. Seems to be doing a bang up job as we aren't finding anywhere near the amount of ticks some of you on here have posted above.

Don’t they have a good tick repellent for humans? Does OFF help at all?

I mean they they can put a man on the moon but haven’t found a way to repel these little bastages.

My dog got the runs and was really lethargic and walked funny for a couple days as well. Felt bad and threw the rest away(Bio Spot). He is back to his old self now, though.

No mushrooms are worth getting infected with ticks .......hate dem bastards. Never seen ticks on a dogs foot like that. I use the drops on the neck and usually only give dogs 2 doses a year.

Another pic showed a tick burrowed into a dog's gum along the tooth line, apparrently dogs that eat grass have another worry.

Those oily drops to the nape of the lower neck on canines is a threat to both long-term and short-time health. Vets don't normally say much about it (most vet offices sell that crap). Why do you think the instructions advise thoroughly washing your hands after applying. It's rumored to be a cancer-causer and very tuff on the dog's system upon application. Don't have an easy solution.

I don't know, I gave my former lab frontline for 10 years and he never showed any ill signs from it. I suppose different dogs can react differently just like humans to medications. I'd rather apply a topical then have them injest a pesticide. That's why I have not tried the bravecto the vet suggested. I'd also rather risk the side effects then see the dog suffer with ticks like that foot pick. That is not healthy for an animal either!

I second (third?) NexGard chewables. Use them on my two GWPs. Way easier than the topical stuff, and no worries about getting it on your hands or whatever.

I still find this stuff fascinating. I always assumed that the tick/flea stuff REPELLED bugs. Oh no. Not at all. It KILLS THEM. Only caveat is they still have to bite, but it basically turns your buddy into a walking insecticide.

Freaking amazing.

If my brittany sees one crawling on her, she will bite it off and eat it. Its funny and weird at the same time when she doesn't swallow it all the way and a few minutes later it comes crawling out of her mouth.
