Mr Heater Buddy

Mine doesn't blow out unless extreme wind hits it. Fishing with kids it makes it it funner not worrying about who is going to melt them selves.

I recall melting lines on the thin metal grate mounted in front of white ceramic burner. Am I remembering wrong?

I'd like a sunflower with 1/2 the physical size and 1/2 BTU rating of the current ones. My insulated canvascraft (NorpacR2 fabric) doesn't allow anything over the lowest setting on my current sunflower.

i think you can still melt line on the front but you almost have to try to. Its the smell of burnt up coats and bibs i dont miss about the sun flower. Or you can put it against the the shack and it wont melt it if the wind would make it flex a little and touch the back.

I still sunflower. The buddy blew out on me too often. This was 10 years ago. Has design improved since?

Pilot lights in a popup seems like overkill.

You couldn't pay me to go back to a sunflower POS. Haven't had a headache or burnt my stuff in 7 years and counting.

I have a sunflower from back in the days..back when fire was first discovered I think! You could tip that sucker over and it would still keep running. Upgraded to a suck arse one about 6 yrs back..it would go out if you even TRIED to adjust the tank position. POS. I had Santa deliver me a big buddy a couple years back and haven't looked back since.
I may have to list the 2 sunflowers I have on classifieds on here. hahaha

Im still rockin the sunflower heaters. Have one that mounts on the tank and one of the cooker ones that can run on 1 pounders or use the hose to hook to tank. Have been thinking about trying a big buddy but have heard they are not as durable and blow out really easy. the small one that johnr got would probably work pretty well in my new one man I just bought though.

the last straw for me was when that damn sunflower started spitting fireballs at me. Then it wouldnt shut off, i had to kick it out the door because, of course you cant even think about touching anywhere on it beings how the entire unit gets to ~1000*F

I would of turned the knob on the valve to close. This has worked for me when I need to replace my tanks.

I have an old old old buddy heater do the new ones have fans in them? my old one doesnt and heats old but if its below 0 forget about it. The pilot light also blows out constantly.

I have a big buddy in several hunting shacks and have found that I really like the fact of the pilot. You can use the heater and warm it up , but then shut it down to just pilot mode and then when the last hour hits when the temp drops you can heat it back up again without making any noise!

Now ice fishing, I wouldn't worry about the pilot light, I would just shut it off all the way and then relight it.

I started using a big buddy heater a couple years ago. I have only used a 20lb tank, line and fuel filter. I do have problems with the regulator on the buddy heater freezing up. When that happens, I switch to the other side. Then that side will freeze up. I have removed the filter and jumped back and forth trying to keep from freezing. This is when it's bitterly cold out. I called Mr. Heater and they weren't aware of anything like that. I know others that have had the same problem. Anyone else experience this? Is there a way to prevent it from happening? I have packed up and went home a couple times when it was too cold and I couldn't keep the heater going.

I have used the Mr. Heater for a few years and it works great and is warm as hell. I now have a full thermal otter and the damn Mr. Heater is just too warm. Picked up a refurbished heater buddy at Scheels and hope it works good. Did not want the big buddy as it is larger and I see no need for the two burners in my house. I will likely bring the bulletproof Mr. Heater along just in case the reurb doesn't work out.

The Buddy line of heaters has no flaws. Using anything else is folly and deserving of ridicule.

I quit using the line and tank. Just use the little propane cylinders now. I usually look for a good price and buy a dozen or so at a time. Still more expensive, but convenience factor, no regulator worries, and not having to haul a tank around are nice.

If the made a half sizer I'd be all over it. Most run way too hot in the good insulateds. Insulation varieties vary considerably, mine's dang near too hot!
