Has anyone ever caught a Muskie threw the ice at New Johns? or specifically targeted them there in the winter time?.. Was thinking the other day that it would be fun one weekend this winter to try to catch one at new johns but never hear of people trying to catch them in the winter? or if it would be a futile attempt?
any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

if it were me and I was targeting them...I use a spearing set up to draw them in ...then a spoon on heavy line and let the fun begin

Never done it, but I know for a fact that at one point our state record was caught threw the ice. I think it was a record or two ago. Caught out of New Johns. And I know it's a fact because he was my neighbor. So can't hurt to try. Maybe you'll pick up a few eyes while you're at it.

Yeah two of the last three records came through the ice. I know for sure one of them was the musky hitting a perch that was being brought in. So perhaps you should go perch fishing and just make sure you get all the fight out of the perch before landing it! What do you mean officer I wasn't using the perch as bait I was simply bringing it in but my reel froze up till the musky broke it loose! #$%^&>
