No. The government gave it away. The Homestead Act of 1862. Roughly 44% of the state was homesteaded. So if the folks that paid taxes for the Louisiana Purchase want to bitch, they are a little late.
That's correct. Also huge amounts was given to the railroad. Also school lands. The little that remained was public. That's what we don't want to loose to the greedy.

Many western states were given millions of acres. New Mexico already sold most of theirs. Sell off the public and post the private and the only happy people will be outfitters and high fence operations. You may as well sell your guns now because they want be worth much as pry bars.

I believe the Louisiana Purchase was funded through bond sales not taxation from US citizens.
