I am a big fan of suspenders. When you temporarily grow too portly you just don't button the waist.

It's a shame to waste perfectly good pants due to a little bloating from fine cheeses and beer.

tight wasted pants are no way to hunt

love suspenders until you have to shit in the woods. Just no easy way to go about it. Take off jacket, maybe sweatshirt, then not poo on suspenders hanging around your ankles.

au contraire mon frère.... with proper technique the suspenders can guarantee poo-free pantaloons - especially critical for bulky ice fishing

as for the need for speed - that is properly addressed through diet and willpower prior to the hunt

I have the Super Down Jacket. I probably would have went with the Guide Jacket if I didn't already have the Sitka but the Kenai is a solid choice as well. I have guide pants and they're nice.
Any idea if the Kenai is similar to the Super Down for packability? Have considered the
Super Down, as I am mostly looking for something to pack in and use while glassing.

I do not know positively but my guess is probably not as compact as the Super Down. If you look at the Kuiu website it touts the packability of the Super Down but does not for the Kenai. The Kenai is also heavier which would probably make it less packable. I'm sure it will pack down but I'd be surprised if it would get a small as the Super Down.

Here are a few pics for you guys.

Kenai on the left and Super Down on the right.

The Kenai weight is a little inflated. I used the first small stuff sack I found....you could save a little weight with a lighter sack.

Both are nice jackets but when weight is an issue, the super down will be going with. Packs down smaller, don't need a stuff sack (packs into it's own pocket), quite warm for it's size-weight. Not durable material though.

I don't any experience with the Kenai out hunting yet and not sure I will use it much for hunting anyways. Does have pit zips, more durable material and quieter, rain/wind resistant.

It's all personal preference but when weight is an issue I like either 1 or 2 merino tops for layering, down puffy jacket, and a rain jacket. For bottoms I like a pair of zip-off Kuiu merino bottoms, guide or attack pants, and rain pants. If weights not a issue (truck camping), I end u packing just about everything I own and decide what to wear based on the weather and mood. One new piece I really liked using this spring was the Sitka traverse cold weather hoody.

Mountain Hardware Piero pants are an excellent value. Very durable, good dwr coating, good sized pockets with good placement, a little stretch, lots of good earth tone colors. I wear them interchangeably with Sitka Ascent and/or Mountain pants.

I'm nervous to ask how. Maybe you could sketch it?

Kenai is on sale under the Outlet for $40.00 off. Might be kind of hard to pass up at that price.

For those that wear wool for base layer, what weight is preferred. Heavy or medium?

i will second this. picked up a pair at gander for like 40 bucks on sale. great, comfortable, pant that has a little stretch to them. I haven't really had to test the dwr on them yet.
