Hi guys. Been lurking for a bit now and finally decided to post a question since theres a lot of experience and helpful folks on here. Finally decided to try the ice fishing gig and bought a good bit of gear and decided to go with the k-drill. My question for those of you who use the drill application does it matter what setting the numbered collar is set on usually for torque? I know it's supposed to be in drill mode and the switch in the 1 position but have not seen anything on the collar setting. TIA for any help.

In drill mode the collar should lock itself... i.e. 100%

i.e. the collar has no function in drill mode

and yes, speed 1 is correct

I tried speed 2 once - that was exciting

Yep, 100%. Also, consider a clam plate. Learned the hard way last year that a foot of ice or less is no problem for a k drill. 4 feet of ice in march is also extremely doable, but my right wrist took a serious beating and still hasn't fully recovered. Honestly thought I broke it 2 different times. Clam plate takes that danger factor out of the equation.

Kentucky Windage has monster wrists capable of dealing with extreme torque. But pussies like Ahab and myself appreciate the dual long moment arms that the physics of a Clam Plate provide for safety/comfort.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. Gonna give it a go tomorrow and I agree the clamplate looks like my next investment.

B...on Sunday you'll have to cut a hole or two with my SM 40V just for comparison.
