I am struggling in the process of picking out a prop for my 45hp 2stroke Mariner. The one I have now is in need of repair and is only a 10pitch and the diameter is 11.25. I have narrowed it down to a Solas brand and a Qucksilver. The diameter of the Solas is 11 1/10 whereas the Quicksilver is 10 3/8. I have selected to go with a 13pitch to hopefully get a little more speed out of my 79 Mr. Pike. I do not have a tachometer but I will be getting one with the new prop. My question is, would the larger diameter be a benefit or not? Also, is selecting a 13pitch too much? Thanks

With out the RPM's all you can do is guess. I'd try and find someone with a similar setup and see what there running. Do you know your top speed?

Give Bismarck prop works a call, he has more information than most of us here.

My guess would be try a three blade aluminum 13p and see where that takes you. If it takes you a long time to get up on plane then you went to aggressive and should go back to an 11p. Diameter will make some difference, the bigger it is the more water you will pass through, but will also lower your RPMs.

I personally wouldn't put a stainless prop on that boat/motor because you a likely fishing on smaller bodies of water and not going to notice much performance difference between the aluminum and stainless. An aluminum prop is more forgiving on stumps and rocks as well.

Just my recommendation. I know of several people that don't put their stainless props on until they are headed to larger bodies of water such as Oahe of Sakakawea.

One of my previous boats was a 1984 crestliner noric with a 35 evinrude tiller. I don't know what prop was on it but I could do 27

put your tach on and run your current prop and see where your max rpm's are. You will also need to find out what your max recommended rpm's are for your motor. Then report that finding back to us

Had a similar setup 13 got on plane with a good load. 15 was faster but took a little with 3 adults in the boat. Settled on a 14 and was happy overall. My boat had a full windshield btw.

All4eyes was yours also a Mr. Pike? Mine has a side console but that doesn't add much weight other than maybe 10lbs. Any decent place to buy props around Bismarck that may allow me to exchange props if what I get isn't adequate? Thank you
