After 30+ years of applying for a Bull Elk, today I received an email that I could put in for one of the left over cow tags, so that is what I did.

It, if drawn will be my once in a lifetime tag, but I am running out of years, and it seems as though I wont draw otherwise.

I guess wish me luck...

I wish no one would put in for the leftover cow tags. Maybe then they could give them to people who never filled their once in a lifetime tag during the year they had it. Or give them out and it doesn't count towards your draw if you are over 55 years old. They could give them to charities to raffle or handicap hunters or youth. Instead they dupe people into applying for them and wasting their once in a lifetime opportunity. If you want a cow tag this year then by all means put in for it, but I am guessing this will become a norm. IMO elk numbers are through the roof in the E3, E4, even E2 areas.

I agree . Bs that it counts against the OIL . I would be suprised if they don’t sell out . I hope they done . The GF guy in charge of the elk tags said elk numbers are crazy high , basically opposite of deer numbers he said . Well ok , then for cow tags sell some that aren’t OIL . I too am happy for someone that wants one by all means get one but dont like how GF is going about it
