I have a fetish for using the least amount of resistance possible. I use the smallest bobber I can, the lightest tension on tipups I can, and so on. The few times I've used them I have put the rattle reel in total free spool and balanced a small bobber on top of the reel so the slightest tap pulls the bobber off the reel and it free falls to the water. The fish feels nothing and I usually see the bobber fall. The few times I didn't see the bobber fall the rattle reel was the backup. It might be overkill, but I've caught lots of light biters like crappie and walleyes doing this. Good Luck!!
