Red River Zebra Mussels

I did some fishing on the Red this week near Grand Forks and saw my first confirmed adult zebra mussels on a snagged stick I pulled out of the river. Two adults were making their home on that particular stick. It was an unfriendly reminder to place extra caution when pulling a boat out of the Red.

Maybe if you ask captain ahab nicely he could save some zebra mussels for you so you can make a nice zebra mussel broth.

They're pretty well established in Lake Winnipeg already. A former colleague who leaves in Winnipeg posted pictures this summer of his kids finding freshwater clams absolutely covered in Zebra Mussels.
