Why did we get rid of the shuttle system? Seems to me like we've gone backwards with space technology. Why can't they fly something like a real spaceship instead of drop from the sky in a fricking bobber?

Because it was only designed for low earth orbit and was extremely overly complex...example boosters on the shuttle itself. Russia actually made a shuttle as well..no boosters in the actual shuttle because more could go wrong. Look how many blew up vs space x launches. The system space x has is by far way more effecient and deemed safer. Atleast this is what we were told when we went to nasa.

I just wonder why they haven't made a space craft that can be flown and landed like a plane or even these rocket boosters rather then some stupid pod that drops in the ocean and you have to be rescued from it before it sinks. You'd think technology would be there by now. We should all be flying around like the Jetsons by now FFS!

I am surprised the dont build a spaceship in orbit and just use the roackets as a shuttle from earth to this space buily shuttle..like a star trek shuttle that can be used to go to different spots in space.....

Isn't that the International Space Station? I think they built it in space no?

They did build it in space but the Space station stays in earths orbit amd is not propelled per say. I am talking about something way larger that can actually be propelled to different locations(nuclear fuel) like mars.. jupiter etc. Similar to the enterprise om star trek..staffed with alot of crew to basically explore different planets. Seems like our technology is there for it...probably cost way to much to do is why it hasnt been done.
