We didn't see eye2eye much but we got over our differences pretty damn quickly every time and even wished him a happy bday during and right before fishingbuddy went Kaput...

The denialism around this subject is an interesting case study in human psychology.

Reminds me of RW ranch in Texas. Complete denial about CWD, what it was doing to his own herd and what was right in front of his face.

I’m not sure what’s more surprising. The idea that hunters won’t accept reality or that they’re willing to give deer this disease so they can hunt over bait.

Yep, had this happen to some friends. One in Montana and one in Wisconsin. It wasn't a slow progressing thing where it took six months or years to incubate. It was a domino. A pneumonia-like symptom.

I asked them what is the one thing they did different. They purchased hay. Proteins are everywhere and when people test their hay quality, they want good fiber, dry matter and high protein. If hay begins to be tested for mis-folded proteins and they are found, should a lock down be implemented and no hay bought or sold if deer are present around hay fields?

Awe sorry for the confusion! I wasn’t around for the glory days of this site so I wasn’t aware. To put it lightly my old man can be quite bull headed at times haha. but the guy believes deeply in what he believes in even if it upsets a lot of people on here. Private property rights are a big one (I think the all private lands posted thing on Here didn’t buy him a ton of friends) sportsmen and landowners need to work together even on topics they don’t always agree one.

The guys honestly one of the most avid sportsmen I know and I think people don’t believe it. The amount of time and money he’s spent on habitat and things like supplemental feed would blow a lot of peoples minds. Now that I’m old enough I’m helping with this but man do I get to reap the rewards. We have some of the best deer habitat in the area and it’s because of hard work and money he dumped into a passion. Now with kids and eventually his grand kids hunting he has shifted focus and it’s fun to watch. He’s more excited to watch someone else kill a deer then he gets himself we he finally does shoot one. What about the deer farms that have 12-13 year old deer not even showing symptoms yet and have it? I don’t deny it Brock, CWD is real. Do I think it’s blown out of proportion?.. oh absolutely 110%.

The distrust in government agencies is at an all time high. I don’t go down the Covid/CWD rabbit hole very often.. but in reality i think it’s a pretty good example of why people really question the CWD narrative being pushed.

“trust the experts” (word for word comparison here)
“2 weeks to slow the spread, this will slow the spread” (“stopping hunting over supplemental feed can help slow the spread!”)
“mask up, everything helps” (“don’t take a tool for the agencies tool box”)
“6 feet away!” “Don’t spend time with your family at gatherings like holidays, if you do you’re to blame!” (“We can’t unnaturally congregate herd animals at a feed pile, even in small doses”)


Now we have preemptive pardons, ivermectin actually did help, covid is on what, it’s 6th strain?.., and people are on booster number 6? Or is it 7 or 8 by now? (I have nothing against people that got vaccinated, it was their choice.)

It’s hard to ignore the facts that not all the time the government is correct, nor do they have the people’s best interest in mind (hell, sometimes it’s even about the money!). The last week should show people a lot of that.

We keep getting told deer die from CWD, it’s always fatal!, when 99.99% of the time it’s something else. If a deer is found dead, or hit by a car, or shot by a hunter it’s because of CWD! 3 years ago if I got mauled by a bear and then tested positive for Covid, I’m pretty certain every agrees they would’ve marked me down due to dying from Covid even though it was the bear attack that actually got me.

As an "award winning scientist" (a trusted expert in some arenas - haha) I concur.

However - the degree to which I've seen "science" twisted and manipulated to suit political or ideological agendas in recent years horrified me (see COVID).

So much so that I've now gone back and looked at previous science-based decisions in gov't (eggs, margarine, seed oils, pesticides, herbicides, AIDs, and on and on) and found myself to be equally horrified at the true motivations that drove the gov'ts decisions - and it certainly wasn't the health/benefit of John Q. Public.

COVID revealed, once again, that evil/greed/selfishness/perversion is what motivates most people - and those in power are able to act on them. It's the human condition. I'm now at the point where I question EVERYTHING the government does. To not be cynical would be the definition of foolish. To not be cynical is to NOT practice science.

You ain’t wrong. But I wish more people were able to recognize a “campaign” twisting stats and figures. Too many follow their team’s interpretation and let them do the questioning for them. Social media and modern journalism echo chambers get most of the blame from me.

The sugar industry vilifying fat in your diet fooled people for decades. One (unlicensed and barred) doctor linked autism to vaccines and somehow that took hold. People are easily swayed and these days it’s usually the loudest that get the spotlight.

I don’t know your area of expertise, but I can’t imagine the frustration if you have to put up with a barrage of armchair experts who constantly shout you down. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to explain to people in my family that it isn’t smoke coming out the the stacks of a coal plant, but they read enough Facebook posts to know more than me.

Like I said.. I don’t go down that rabbit hole often but man are their similarities. The department is almost word for wording things that we all learned to question from then. The 2 sides that weren’t in agreement then are probably not in agreement on this either.

I don’t have a complete distrust in a lot of things but when even the experts don’t follow their science (listen or read my testimony or many others that submitted in favor of and the hypocrisy is summed up pretty good) I really, really question it. If the higher ups at the department and the biologists can’t agree/follow the science they themselves put forth I start to question it along with lots of others.

I didn’t trust a lot of science put forth during Covid. Very glad I didn’t in hindsight. Questioning the “science” put forth here might make me blissfully ignorant; but I guess if that’s the case I’m fine with.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…… the two are the exact same duck….. identical game plans. Let me ask a question… which campaign starting first? Usually the campaign started first is the one thats full of shit and the one started afterwards is in defense of a bullshit campaign. If what they call science is actually science for covid and now cwd holy hell you’re easily fooled. Just like respect…. You earn trust. And anyone on the wrong side of covid and now cwd has done very little to earn an ounce of trust.
