Trolling rods are specialized for pulling cranks or heavy bb with spinners. I don’t think anyone uses them for throwing cranks or jigging. Trolling rods are also typically longer and the ones I like have a moderate fast taper. You can obviously use normal rods for pulling cranks but they are not ideal. You don’t need a sparkly boy or a 12” graph to use trolling rods.Whats a trolling rod? Is it different than a jigging rod? or a BB rod? How about a rod for just throwing cranks?
Should I buy rods for different techniques of fishing before or after getting 12" graphs and a sparkly boat?
I think he was being facetious, Migrator Man.
This is a good thread though. I am also looking for trolling rods this year as I want to be better at trolling cranks. I have two leadcore setups from last year and will get 2 rods to do both bottom bouncing and downrigging (for rainbow trout). Will probably put mono on those as braid doesn't work well in downriggers.
Just curious, why doesnt braid work well for down riggers?
the clips attach to mono much tighter
