I have always had luck with compacting the soil, then lightly raking the top little bit loose, spread the seed, rake again, then cover with a thin layer of grass clippings, or stray, or even a little light layer potting soil in the small areas, but a large area like you have would be best with some straw. Starter fertilizer lightly, let grow for 3 weeks without cutting, and water 2-3 times a day, very lightly enough to keep the seed moist.

good luck

yes... cover the seed with clippings or straw once its down if at all possible. it holds heat and moisture and helps hide it from those pesky avian creatures. all good things.

Chesak Seed House in Bismarck is NOT closing. They had two buildings. The office and then a warehouse one block east with an empty lot. They are building a new facility on that lot so they sold the old office building for a soup kitchen.

When DBud said on page one they are closed "for good" that concerned me so I called them. They said even the Tribune got the story wrong so they have been getting many calls.

Hey DBub, "no soup for you"

Chesaks are closed. For good.

Hey Everyone,

Wanted to clear things up. We are not closed. We are in the process of putting up a new warehouse/office one block East of where we currently are. There was an article a while back that talked about the date that the soup cafe will close on this building and that has caused some confusion. Again, we are not closed or closing. We are still operating as normal and will continue as long as our customers let us ;)

Thank you,

Chesak Seed House

Good to here. Was hoping to get more seed. Was like a little boy wandering around lost for awhile.

Used Chesak Seed for 2 acres on Fox Island several years ago and again in 2012. They recommended a rural blend of seed to us and we were fortunate to have a good catch both times. They are great to work with!
