Checking to see if you all find benefit in using pole type shallow water anchors while river fishing. I will fish Lake Sakakawea and Lake Oahe often and want to know if I will benefit from owning one. I am looking at getting a 12' MinnKota Talon.

Any practical experiences or advice would be appreciated.

I reviewed the thread previously and it was somewhat helpful, but I was looking for more testimonials (pros, cons, experiences).

I've heard a lot of great things about them.
The only downside I've heard, is that it works wonderful from 0-11 feet, and dips off from 11-12 feet...which I can understand.

Guy was nice enough to let me fish with him last summer. His was sweet way better than throwing the old cinder block over the side.

I have two power poles instead of a talon. Either is better than nothing. Not sure how well it will do in river current but there are other benefits of having one. Like not really having the need to tie the boat off when you beach it.

This may be because I have two power poles but I don't even have to tie the boat off at the dock. I just pull up to the dock and drop the power poles. As long as its not windy or rough water at the dock, I don't have to worry about the boat going anywhere while I go get the truck.
