We tested a few different brands a year or so ago on the water. The best for actually filtering out the light and reflection and showing better detail of the bottom were Costa's and Maui's. Most worked well, but these two really stood out. Especially the Maui's. They were like going from an analog tv picture to an HD. There is a reason for the price differences beyond fancy looks and names.

Another vote for Costas, but a lot of them do have full frames because of the glass lenses. They do have models without glass, but if you've ever looked though a glass lens it's hard to go back. Maui Jim's are very basic frames are very lightweight, so that might be more what you are looking for. It would be awesome to have several pairs of sunglasses, but that would get expensive. For on the water I really like the thicker frames for keeping reflections and sidelight out of your eyes. Off the water I wouldn't mind a thinner pair of frames for just lounging on a deck and looking cool, lol!
