A buddy of mine is extremely Scandinavian - Pale white, red hair, beard, looks like a Viking. I tried to convince him to get a tat across his lower back that said "Divide and Conquer". Couldn't understand why he wouldn't do it......

Me - I have one. No desire to get more. Wish I could tell you it is uber meaningful and very tastefully done, but apparently I wasn't that cultured when I was 18.

Managed to avoid any man made permanent coloration through 3 continents, 25 countries, 26 years of military service, and one war. There's some fairly stout peer pressure scattered throughout that time frame, but I fought through it and my birthday suit is all original issue.

my dad had one navy ww2 I don't have any and don't really understand the tat craze. Seems everybody has them and a person stands out more without them.

none...but have a question for some that do about the meanings of them. Like the one thats looks like barb wire around the bicep on them. Seen a couple of woman had them too, that mean they tough are something????
They're "expressing" themselves.

Have never seen a single tattoo that I liked on a woman, never. The more they get the trashier they look IMO. I could care less if a dude has one. I guess they're "expressing" themselves.

Another one is a nose ring on a gal. How that ever became a thing is beyond me. It looks like a booger on there nose.

For me it meant i was 18 and "cool".... hung on to it for 14 years and hated it for 10 of them before i figured out what i wanted to cover it up with.

I have one and might get two more. Thinking about getting the kids' names in antler lettering.

A lot if years ago when I was in the Navy I thought about getting a tattoo. Every time I had the money I couldn't find a guy to do what I wanted, when I was broke great tattooists were everywhere.

During my second "visit" to Yokosuka Navy hospital in Japan I was talking with a cute LT and telling her I was going to get a tattoo when they let me out on a pass. She looked at me with those BIG blue eyes then looked up and down my body and said "Honey scars are just like tattoos but with better stories". Well that did it for me and I haven't had one yet.

I did see one I think is awesome and I'm thinking about having it done. I'd have it done on the back of my left calf, it has an old time (late 1800s- early 1900s) finger pointing to the right and script that says "I'm with Stumpy". :;:smokin

Other than the wrong leg here's an example.

I don't understand how people destroy their body with booze.

Replace booze with tattoo. Just something to think about as we slam another beer and mutilate our insides

I have thought about it many times, but like many haven't figured out what I want permanent. My wife beats me in cool scars too.

Come to think of it, should have gotten my wedding ring tat'd and if ever get divorced have the finger chopped off so I wouldn't make the mistake again.
