New wife or move the mount. The mantel below the mount is a good idea. Even one made out of wood will disperse the heat.

Brilliant; my thoughts exactly. The bottom of the Mantel cut at an angle to force the rising heat out and away from the wall/mount. My 5x5 mount is only 2.5' above the hot air coming out of the fireplace but i have an 8 inch mantle to deflect the rising heat. OR get her an electric fireplace in the room she mostly frequents...

OR put some clothes on her or cuddle up to her when she is cold. You aren't newlyweds are ya!!

Yes, but it only blows the air so far heat still rises along the stone.

My question is: has anyone had a mount above a fireplace for an extended period of time and how has it affected the mount if at all?
