I always thought it was OK to clean fish anywhere immediately after catching them as long as u left piece of skin to id and took the waste with u in trash bags.

Can't I clean them while fishing? I do it all the time. Regardless, that whole back steak method is simply silly. Learn to to it the right way. It's very little lost meat. Good fillets. Great eats.

Biggest thing is whack them over the head. If they are dead they wont slime. I filet them just like walleye. Then leave the fillets in fridge over night. They are nice and firm and easier to remove the y bones.

and back to the OP... i completely agree that it is simply WRONG to imply that the method demonstrated in that first video is right. learn to do it the RIGHT way like demonstrated in that second video so you don't look like the idiot in the first video.

IMHO theres no wrong way to clean a pike. all you need is some white wine vinegar, a bucket and some jars. pickle the damn things and enjoy on the boat.

ive always used the first way, trying to remove as many bones to start with. the nice thing about the pickling process is that it actually dissolves the bones a person missed the first time.

Same here , If you ever get close to the hills can you swing in with the blade and open up a spot on the lake ? We are at over 55''

Ended up throwing that pike away. Too many bones. Now I know why we never kept them when I was growing up.
