Probably going to be 2 pinks =a blue one goes to reverse lights other probably goes to solenoid on your trailer for your surge brakes, green=green, yellow=yellow, black and black one to each side of your taillights=black, white=white would be my guess, just make sub elect do it he might have some romex or blue extension cord laying around.......

was it confusing because I didn't cut the old plug off???

And used the vehicle side instead of the replacement Trailer side 7-pin you bought at lunch? :)

you're going for a full dirtymike meltdown today, arent you? It's the number of wires coming from the trailer which differs with the picture you posted.

as has been mentioned - more than likely they ran 2 wires from the plug instead of one wire from the plug and splitting the wire into 2 (one for each side of the trailer).

Bckhntr, you don't truly understand how much of an idiot I am if there's some wires involved. I'd be the worst suicide bomber.

and yet you manipulate peoples "wired up" spines...haha
Just pretend those 7 confusing wires are nerves running through the C-7 of some fat guys neck. Youll be fine

It does. I just decided that after fishing tonight, I'm going to clip it off and hope for the best. Better swing by captain jacks.

Go buy a 7 pin connector at a auto parts store. They come with a diagram of what color where and makes the plug more resistant to damage. Also eliminates the need for an adapter

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200127974_200127974

something like this. I have converted all of my 4 and 5 blade plugs to one of these so im not constantly chasing adapters around

this should get you close. i would still use a test light to check what function each pin performs

Do not just match up the wires you have with what is printed on the 7 way plug, they are different than say on a 4 way plug as the above diagram shows. Use that diagram (or a test light) to determine location of the wires.

In retrospect, I think Juan had a good idea. But I'm going to check a couple places tomorrow.

Nothing difficult in this. Cut your worn plug off and use a multimeter to test for continuity between the plugs and wires and that will give you the pattern you need in determining which wires will need to be attached to the corresponding pins on your new plug.

A pen and sheet of paper to sketch it out helps.
