live bait on bottom or do they come up off bottom for a snack once in a while ?

By the looks of that picture they have the same body style and color as what I saw, I have a feeling what ever it is they are growing in population. I saw a swarm of half a dozen or so surface feeders about a week ago but I was in no mood for investigation , *&^%# boat motor quit on me so I was on a mission to get back to shore.

Thanks to the 3 guys that offered to pull me in and kept an eye on me (by the casino). I found out my electric will still go a long ways when it says the battery is low.

There have been piles of them in Devils before I was even born. White suckers are a part of a lot of big systems without too much of an issue. A chunk of worm on a lindy is your best offering if you are in the mood for one. If you want to really put a hurt on them in the spring, PM me and I will tell you where they bunch up big time.

I still kind of doubt they are jumpers though.

They jump and roll a lot. They shoot up from the bottom like a rocket and zip down just as fast. They are a goofy little fish.

That guy in the boat behind me doesn't deserve that.

Does anyone know if you can use Devils Lake white suckers that who have caught in a minnow trap for your own bait?

Seems kind of a waste of a good opportunity for some monster slough shark bait especially since that is what they would be eating, oh well would really like to get my hands on some tailrace smelt for ice fishing, dead of course

I have had a tough time finding Blue Herring for ice fishing which is my go to bait for slough sharks that's why it would be "neat" to get some smelt instead

You can use dead, frozen ones. The only place you can use live suckers in ND is the Red. You can use them all over MN including everything else under sun(even bullheads).

Just noticed this thread, I have caught quite a few bullheads in Devils Lake, actually on the Sullys Hill bay.One day years ago a guy came in with a bunch of perch caught there, went out and caught a bunch, next time launched a small boat caught a bunch of bullheads and perch that day.
I am the guy that wieghed the state record for Riley Zavada, but that one came off the culverts at the golden hiway before road went under, also wieghed all three of the striped bass records, spent way too much time in that damn baitshop!!

As far as white suckers, fish the gates on channel A in the spring any amount of time and you will probly catch one, or like in the pic 57 bridge.
