I'll be honest folks, today is my very last day of work at my current place of employment and my heart is just not in it. Most productive thing I'm going to do today is make sure the coffee pot doesn't go empty. I'm just sitting here reading up on Alaska (http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com...n-the-mountains-one-man’s-sheep-journey/page9) (the pics alone are worth the click on that link), a place I've dreamed of since I was just a kid. It it going to happen for me. Hopefully at least three times. I'm going to hunt the giant herds of caribou. I'm going to stalk black bears on Prince of Wales. An someday, I'm gonna do an interior combo for sheep/bear/caribou from what I can tell from the pics is the very top of the world.

But enough about me. What's your dream trip? Fishermen chime in here too. What are you guys saving pennies toward?

ALASKA for sure. My wife lived on the Kenia for a couple years. I guess fishing would have to be on my wish list as getting around on foot has become a challenge.

I'd really like to head down to South America to chase some monster Peacock Bass. A close 2nd would be a fly-in trip way up north in Canada for some huge trophy pike.

A trip to northern Sask to chase a true giant whitetail would have to be number 1 for me. Also, getting a chance at a ND elk would be amazing. And of course Alaska with the opportunity for literally anything big game would be just crazy awesome. Fishing wise, it's a toss up between the Columbia and Erie. Also a northern Manitoba fly-in would be awesome.

Your kids don't need a college education or an inheritance. Right?

I'm hoping I didn't wait to long to go to Africa.

At this point in my life I'm not so concerned about "Once in a Lifetime" type trips. I'm much more interested in finding hunts or fishing trips I really enjoy and then making them a "tradition" every so often. Having kids of 10 and 6 probably plays into that a lot. Even if I scrimped, saved, and sold off some un-used toys it's pretty hard to justify spending 3 weeks in Mongolia looking for a giant Ibex or Marco Polo Sheep.

I get that. Everyone has their priorities. For me, that "tradition" destination hunt is elk hunting Montana. Feasible just about every year or every other. Or every third.

Steve is a good dude, has shot some amazing critters, and the mounts he has are amazing. Not getting a Dall will be my biggest regret leaving here. I was able to hike in on some sheep in Denali Park late fall and get some great photos of some nice rams...different kind of trophy to hang on the wall.

As for myself, agree with Kurt, Stone Sheep would be awesome but to rich for me. Red Stag in New Zealand. I wouldn't care if I got one or not but a polar bear hunt would be something...just the adventure alone would be worth it.

I am headed to AZ next. Hoping I get the chance to chase javelina, coues deer, and I would love to get a mountain lion behind some hounds!

Good luck and keep dreaming!!

Seychelles Atoll in the Indian Ocean for giant trevally, bonefish, and permit
This or a week long float in Alaska on maybe the Kanektok are probably at the top of my bucket list. I'm 35 and single, I've pretty much already decided the float trip will be a 40th birthday preset to myself if some lucky lady hasn't sunk her claws into me by then.

I've done that trip and here's the most important thing I learned:

Make sure you and whomever you're going with are 100% compatible for that length of time. We found out that a person I consider a good friend and I don't belong together for more than 2-3 days. Too many Alphas can wear thin quickly, especially if the Alphas are bickering and there's more than just them in camp, gets really old really fast and taints what really should be a magnificent time to just soak everything in and enjoy.

The other thing I learned, take about 5 more vacation days than you actually need for travel time and the hunt. If you need to flex your hunt on the front or back end due to weather, luggage, or other unforeseen logistical issues it's nice to not have to hurry.

Between the bickering and we ran into weather logistics on the way home that ended with us hopping on a plane looking at our gear bags and gun cases sitting on the tarmac with no clue how or if we'd ever get them home, I'd rather just go hunt Antelope somewhere. In my vast experience of once (grin), Caribou and Antelope hunting are very similar minus the travel and being off-grid which certainly has a lot of appeal.
