One of the best fishing lure marketing tactics I've ever seen was reefrunner giving their cranks clever names. Monkey puke, cheap sunglasses, trailer trash, purple demon, etc....

Think I owe dirty Mike some drinks now that just exposed his evil master plan.

shallow water specialists have little choice but to follow the gut I guess

maybe I became a shallow water freak because I didn't trust my electronics

You haven't been around mega side imaging much have you? Those guys on the river will pull in behind sandbars that are 1-3 ft deep and you can see every fish hiding behind them and pick them off one by one until there are no more, its that good.
And now you have this Panoptix live that looks like you are playing a real life video game. Talk about making Bird and Lowrance graphs from 2018 look obsolete just like that!

seems to me that my lowrance sidescan would detect, and I would easily recognize, walleyes behind sandbars

I can also detect an acorn laying in the driveway

but lakes, sloughs are different - more like finding acorns in tall grass

unless mega imaging doesn't have to be moving?.... is it like Panoptix? I thought it was just higher res but same concept as StructureScan?

Being I'm only 23, I like the new technology and I'm willing to spend the money on it. However I don't look at it as this is going to help me or is required for me to catch fish. I look at it as this is going to help me better understand the fish in this particular lake or river and how they relate to contours or structure or weather conditions or you name it, which is the way I think everyone should look at. I'd argue that a person who learns how to read and effectively use this technology, to better under how fish relate to variables within and around a lake or river, is actually going to do better without the technology than somebody who never used it at all or refused to use it because technology has taught them about the behavior of fish.

Yeah, I don't know. I wonder how well Panoptix will work on a boat. I can see it for ice fishing, though.

I catch a lot of fish in places I can’t see any on sonar

pisses me off - how many fishable areas would I pass up if I trusted the “no fish here” that the graph is telling me?

- - - Updated - - -

I understand the technology and how to read

I suck at making optimal use of them

I need to go to sonar school maybe.

Lazy walleye lay on the bottom --- I dont care what kind of seperation tool one has bottom is bottom ---- they dont move some of them unless if the line hits em.

On the Big Muddy.
My friend took this pic off his graph last week.
My friends on the river won't even go out fishing any more if they don't have a boat with mega imagining on it. "why pitch jigs if there is nothing behind that sandbar.."
I agree, where will it end?

Nice pick ,your buddy shared this pic of a paddle fish at the lake last week with me she was more than likely higher up in the water column to get that kind of shadow. Depth finders are getting more advanced each year time to upgrade but thinking how much better will they get in 2019 and what brand will take the lead in innovation.

It is crazy how fast tech changes. My wife and kids bought me new H-bird Solix units last xmas. Previous was a X97 Lowrance. Talk about having no clue about this stuff. Thankfully my son is teaching me. They are amazing units but I will probably never learn or use most of what they can do. I could fish with just the mapping alone now that i have it. I would have never went out and bought this stuff cuz its way over my head. Was fishing in Florida keys last winter and the boat we were on had the Garmin panoptix. That is pretty neat stuff.
