Thus why it got flagged. The mess up on the not knowing of probation came from him recieving his cwp and thinking that if he was on probation he wouldn't get the permit. He thought that it ran from the first court date and not the sentencing part which he filed a form to plead guilty and not go to court so being a 20 something in western ND he didn't pay close enough attention and assumed that since he had recieved his permit he could purchase a gun. Either way he was issued a permit to carry while still on probation which to me undermines part of what they say these permits are for. IMO , i think we should get rid of the need for a permit in the state if you are legally able to buy/posess a pistol you should be able to conceal or at the very least transport it in your vehichle without having to worry about getting busted after dark if it is not locked seperate from ammo in the trunk and all the other stipulations that go along with it. If you declare to leo that you are carrying much the same way a permit holder does upon first approach it should be left at that, if you are legal to carry the weapon. Odds are if you are not supposed to have a gun in your car that you probably aren't going to let the leo know until he searches the car. I was told by my old sheriff that i should always carry it unloaded on the dash, which to me just seems like a more threatning place for it than in my glovebox or in the backseat.</blockquote>
