I dont think dead trees killed by these beetles would make very good lumber since the larvae consumes the wood. The government needs to find away to either use pesticides or remove healthy trees that have not been effected by this evasive species brought here from east asia.The beetle will consume just about every type of tree in north America especially maple.

there is a very large market for beetle kill pine. I'm hoping to get my hands on some BKP logs to throw them on my sawmill. Only problem is you need to run them through a kiln and run the temperature up to ensure all the bugs/larvae are dead. Other than that, it makes awesome boards.

I’ve built with thousands of board feet of blue stain pine. When the Black Hills had the pine beetle issue it was easy to get. Much more difficult now as the majority of those trees are gone. I like the raw look but finishing you always get that pine yellow if you want the blue to be visible. Great to work with though, seemed much better than #1 pine.
