So, with another little one on the way, the kennel isnt going to fit I the back seat with two child car seats. Not a big deal in the summer, gonna be a problem traveling to MN in January. I don't like the idea of a topper but that might happen anyway. How do you guys haul dogs around in the winter? Will a good kennel cover and a heavy piece of rubber under the kennel be sufficient? Battery operated heated blanket? Other options?

Styrofoam under kennel will help a lot more than a rubber mat and not as slippery. or put the kids in the back;:;badidea

You're getting a topper.

My dog is small enough to fit in a kennel that fits under the roll tarp. Cover the kennel with an insulated kennel jacket and he's toasty when we get where we're going.

Toppers are the way to go imo.. A mud river kennel cover should work though. They get pretty warm in there. What kind of dog?

Toppers are for old guys.

Also, check into ARE toppers. Leer's rear windows suck bunny piddle last time I compared.

When our boys were in car seats, the dog got the spot right between the two car seats.

If you get a topper make sure to spend the little bit more to add flip up side windows that also slide open for venting. Getting at your stuff is worlds better and your pal will need air movement when its summer time.

Anyone know where to find these things used? 2015 F150, 6.5’ box.

Likely too new to find used. I've gotten my toppers from the last 3 pickup from New vision in Grand Forks and have been happy. I've never gotten one with a carpeted interior. I have the windows that flip up on both sides and has a light. The best thing about a topper I'd just throwing stuff in the back, closing the doors, and driving away. I have friends that don't have toppers who have lost decoys, life jackets, and even a Fish Trap. I know it goes with the stigma of an "Old Man's" pickup, but outside of deer season or hauling something tall, it's great. Except for my Dad's pickup. He has a 3/4 ton z71 Duramax with an 8ft box. Im 35 and fed up fetching things out of that for him. He doesn't have rhino liner and things always slide to the front. He built a custom fuel tank and things (usually a cooler) slide underneath and you can't get it out. He's 67 now and hasn't farmed in 7 yrs. I told him his next pickup better be a 6.5 ft box.

I’m currently searching for an ARE topper for my tundra. Main reason is dog travel and ice fishing.

Be very careful when idling truck for any length of time with a dog under the topper. Fumes can and do find their way in to topper.
Been there. done that. almost lost my Springer.

Just to clarify a bit. I was running a 3/4 ton diesel and was idling for about an before daybreak sipping coffee with dog in back under topper at our spot we wanted to hit pheasant opener a few years back. Not sure of the wind or whatever but almost as soon as I let him out of the back he was hacking.
Moral of the story- be aware when dogs are under topper.

my dog laughs at me when I try to put him in the kennel in the truck, even has a nice mud river cover and a cozy blanket inside... so he just rides shotgun

If the wife and kids are with one sits in the back between the kids and the others at the wife’s feet. If it’s just me they both ride shotgun. Them dogs pick out ditch parrots well.

Reverse is your friend. If it slides forward, it will also slide to the back given the right encouragement.
