Because they hold heat if you don’t get them opened up and might still have 4-5 miles left to complete the drive.

I think the idea that they "have" to gut, skin and whatever is not a good one at all. I want "her" to want to go over and over not go yuck and be done.

I have 2 ex-wives that loved everything about hunting. Both of them liked reloading, shooting, cleaning guns, hunting, fishing, gutting, skinning and the cutting and packaging on the kitchen table not to mention the cooking and eating.

My last wife loved hunting and fishing so much she was an AZ hunter ed/youth shotgun instructor and an NMLRA instructor too.

I've introduced dozens and dozens of women and girls to shooting and then hunting over the years. Most were curious about hunting and then about gutting and skinning. I always start slow and help them get started and take over if they've had enough. Their is always another hunt to continue the lessons of gutting and skinning. Most do all their own now and are really proud of the fact they can do their own work.

We need more women that love hunting, fishing and shooting. They're fun to spend time with and if we support them they will support us. As much as I like hunting with my buddies I had more fun with my wife at my side while hunting and fishing.

If you have to move it 4-5 miles, wouldn’t it be easier to cool the meat and move it if you trim it down to just the quarters, straps, and head?

I have a serious question: why do you gut deer?

Pull the quarters, straps, and neck meat without opening the torso. Once all is done, you can cut in under the spine to retrieve the tenderloins. It all fits nicely into a medium/large cooler. pop the head off and toss it in a garbage bag for Mr. Warden.

After all these years I still don’t like gutting deer, so I don’t. Thanks to You who showed me years ago I don’t need to gut a deer.

I need one of these tail wraps so that everyone recognizes I am not a pansy like Wetter

Nah man. I come get it later with the ATV (private land). If I had to pack it out, I definitely do it like you say (gutless method). This year has been about perfect for temps. I hung the whole thing in my garage and I’ve been able to cut off as I have time to butcher. Last year sucked. Too warm. Last year I laid a layer of ice in my big cooler, than a small tarp, laid the meat on a tarp and wrapped it loosely. Little more ice on top and close the lid. Meat stays cool and dry.

I do not fish but the wife does. She can not stand leeches and all I will say is I feel for her. She does the gutting or whatever it is call along with the cooking and eating of the fish.
I eat beef as that is what God made for us to eat.

So she takes one of the grandkids cause they love putting them on the hook, sticking them on their sister or brother and just all around playing with them. db
