You mean something similar to what the people and council members from Cannonball did!yea sure we "won". what is the dollar amount at so far it's cost nd taxpayers?

I have little patience for people that refuse to speak up for themselves too especially in a place as small as srt, so that argument is moot with me as well

if there truly is/was a silent group (supposedly most were against the protest? so we're told now....) then stand up, grow a sack and speak up. sheesh. but no, damage has been done and ND citizens are pissed.
This fall the thing I always found the most telling was that I often would be within just a mile or two of the protest camps at there peak numbers yet if I wasn't on the paved roads it was like nothing was happening. Met more then one truck of hunters both native and white who all seemed to view standing rocks version of burning man from the same perspective. Everyone knew even back in oct that no matter how the fight worked out the people of standing rock would end up being the biggest losers in this fight. You can't alienate the next door neighbors without having repercussions long after the fight is over.....and let's be honest when your neighbors hold all the cards in the deck it needless to say is stacked against you. Should they have stood up and let there voice be heard above all the rest of the noise sure but let's not forget even us on this website had to be careful about what we would say because of possible repercussions let alone being literally surrounded by the troublemakers and not just something we watched on TV. I for one am most interested to watch how the next few months to a couple years play out for the key people in this particular endeavor with particular focus on DAPL Dave and psycho bitch from the sacred Stone camp not to mention dick lick Iron Eyes! The reservation is very good at metering out their own Justice weather on the books or far too often off. Either way it definitely made for a shit ton to talk about during what would normally be a crazy boring time on here.
If your truly honest with yourself and even marginally aware of the repercussions of the actions that we all lament the members of Standing Rock not taking it at least for me is hard to say I would have done differently then they. That is a group of people that by our hand and even more so their own hands have been marginalized their entire lives and many of them found to survive the best thing you can do is duck and cover and to make no waves that break against the native side of the shore. That may be the worng mindset to have and one quite foreign to many of us but it's the way many have made it this far.....it's also the reason they have gone no further but that a debate is one for later. For me in the end other then what's her ass and iron eyes i have no ill will when I meet a new person from down there till they give me reason to.....hell that would be like hating people from Grand forks just because so many there are over the top Democrats with an extraordinary limited grip on reality! So just don't lump them into one group or all we end up with is more pent-up animosity when in reality it's probably just better to let it go and move on.....for Christ sare we fucking won in the end.
Sorry to be preachy and even if find myself generalizing them as a group even though I know it's not correct.
See you are doing it right there confusing the difference between the actions of the tribal council with the individual people on the rez. By that logic you are just as responsible because your tribal leader AKA Obama played a bigger roll in this the dipshit dave. There were people openly denouncing the protest down there but it was risky for them since as soon as they would do that they would immediately get threatened by the people pushing the protest forward.

Cannonball was the main force that truly distroyed the camps. They voted to evic all the camps on the ground inside their District and then ask for the tribal council of Standing Rock to back them up on this which they did by asking the BIA to help expel them from the rez. The vote if you note was prior to trump being sworn in. When cannonball did this it made the camps position unsustainable because they were getting hit from both sides and there wasn't much room for them to spin the story anymore.

it's about money and getting even with whiteyso if they would have won in court and got this shut down, when the protesters went home, they (tribe) would have come back and tried to make a deal to make it right by at least paying for the damage and cleanup and hosting a free kumbuya concert??? no, i don't think so... they would have pulled out the maps and looked for any other pipelines or power lines in the area to extort money from...
you can take that to the bank...

Dean, do you still think ETP is going to donate the land they bought to the tribe?

why can't they own it?I thought they were going to offer it to the tribe as a peace offering to get the tribe on their side at first but now the way things turned out I think they will donate it to the state. Once the pipe is in and construction is completed
I don't think they have any legal way they can own it.

Yep that would have had to happen streight off to have the desired effect and now who knows what they will do with it but I hope the sate gets it.I thought they were going to offer it to the tribe as a peace offering to get the tribe on their side at first but now the way things turned out I think they will donate it to the state. DAPL is only temporarily allowed to own this land and will most likely be forced to sell it or give it away. A gift to the state as a show of appreciation certainly would go a ways to appeasing some of the locals plus that ground has a shit ton of prairie dogs for hunting. Would love to see the signs for the oh so ironic Dakota access Wildlife Management Area.Corps can own land in ND they just have to follow the guidelines set forth by the state. That is one of the biggest misunderstandings when it comes to DU and entities like that owning land here. DU land purchases could have been approved and lands kept in their ownership had they simply followed the rules set forth by the state. Those that do not follow these guidelines have been forced by the courts to divest.
This corp can own this land, they just have to follow the state guidelines for usage.
