A group of us had went on a 5 day bow hunt in Illinois at the end of October. I ended up shooting a nice buck on the morning of Nov 1st. I did not put a great shot on the deer, hitting him a bit back and low. Around 2 hours after the shot, I went to look for arrow and blood. There was not a sign of anything, no blood, hair and no arrow. I was fairly confident that the shot would prove to be fatal, but with no evidence my chances of recovering the deer were pretty slim. We backed out and gave the deer around 12 hours before heading in to look. In the meantime we had about 8 hours of consistent rains, making my hopes of picking up any sign vanish. We searched the area for a couple days while trying not to ruin the hunt of the others that were on the same property. Needless to say, I came back to ND with my Illinois tag still in my pocket. Well fast forward to sunday morning, I woke up to a voicemail from the gentleman whose property we were hunting! While they were looking for another deer, they stumbled upon the buck i had shot a month earlier!! I cant even begin to describe how happy i was that they had found him. It was like a huge weight being lifted of your shoulders. Hopefully my little story here makes sense, i'm still shaking just thinking about how lucky I am!!

Did they find your arrow in him? That last pic looks funny with sapplings(?) coming up through front ribs. Maybe the coyotes moved it around. Anyways cool pics and awesome deer. congrats!

I am going to be looking to have a euro mount done. KDM looks like the guy to talk to about that. Anyone have any feedback on some work that he has done?

He's a good man that'll stand by his work, buck. He'll probably even enjoy a busch light with ya.

SrPutz, Kickemup, and sniper1 would be pretty good references. We've done stuff for each of these guys and they would give you a straight answer. I can send a bunch of pics to you if you want or you could look at the "Euro mounts done and Fort KDM" thread. There are some pics of our most recent items there. We're doing one right now that has been hanging in a guys barn for 3 years. I think it's going to turn out looking pretty good. Give me a shout if you want and I'll do my best to answer your questions. Either way, Congratulations on getting your deer. He's a Dandy!!

Awesome buck. Losing a deer sucks. Amazing how clean some yotes can get a deer carcass. I can vouch for KDMs euro mounts they look great I have had 2 deer a couple paddlefish and a couple yotes done and they all look great.

Kdm does great work. Kirk and his dad are straight shooters. I took my antelope there and couldn't be happier. I will be a return customer.

That is pretty good of the outfitter to call you and take the weight off of your shoulders. Some may not have been so decent and kept the antlers to hang in their lodge.

How did the rest of your group do? Would you go back? Just curious...Congrats on a great buck.

It was a tough week of hunting, Oct 30-Nov 5. Temps were anywhere from low 50's in morning to mid 70's in the afternoons. We also had one day virtually wiped out to steady rains. We had a total of 8 hunters with only 3 of us filling our tags. Every guy that was in camp with us did see at least one "shooter" but not all had the chance to get shots off on those deer. One other hunter did have a shot and a clean miss. Overall, 4 of 8 guys flung arrows. We are actually in the process of getting our group to send in deposits to the outfitter for a return trip. Unfortunately, we have to split our group up due to family obligations. So, one group will hunt the last week of October, and my crew will take November 4-10. I enjoy getting out to different parts of the country and bow hunting, so far i've hunted ND, MN, KS and IL.
