So what are we thinking with regards to lake access after this storm? With the high winds I am hoping some spots will still be open, I'll probably head out Friday to check things out. Thoughts...

I think some will open up and some will blow in. I think it really depends when they get by to plow the country roads and if the access points get opened at all. Big Lake should be ok as I would think a lot of snow would have been blown off.

Heard south of interstate only got a couple inches, just nasty rain and ice. I plan to try down in the Ashley/Lehr areas later this week. I hope everyone down that way has power back up and running!

Of course when i finally have an ATV for ice fishing, now we wont have access. If i would have bought a snowmobile it would still be 70 degrees out.

Accesses are iffy right now, we will have our weekly ice conditions report posted at about 3:30 today for Devils Lake. Lots of drifts. Some trucks out on East Bay yesterday as you can access that out behind Pop's. The Northern Lakes are bad, tracked vehicle are basically required. The big problem is in many spots we didn't have driving ice yet. Heard a report of a truck going through yesterday but haven't heard where yet. East Bay off of highway 20 only had 11 inches of ice and every hole I drilled had water coming up. Some areas only had 4-6 inches of snow but there were drift upon drift of 1-2 feet.

Get a set of tracks
Maybe someday, for the most part i find them hard to justify living in Bismarck. I think access to the lakes will be the issue, i think once on a lot of lakes, ATV will still be fine. The drifts should be pretty hard.

I have a buddy with a tracked ranger and i have only been with once in the past 5 years that the tracks were needed. Every other time we would have been better of with wheels.

Had a buddy drive down to rice lake south of Strasburg this afternoon to fish and was greeted with tractor tracks headed out from the access. He said it looked as if it headed out to help a truck out. Figured about 18 inches of snow on the ice, so he thought better of it and headed home. Hoping for less snow on ice and access points further east by Ashley and Lehr areas. Gonna try on Friday. Keep the access reports coming and everyone be safe out there!

Hit up Darling today. No vehicle access. The whole lake is snow drifted pretty hard. The wind was nasty. Took me a little bit to get my hub shelter set up. Had to walk in, fished the south bank by the dam. Just a couple small northerns.

Thanks razor...I'm planning to head up to the Grano crossing tomorrow morning...fish for a couple hours before the winds get bad.

Any reports on access in Valley City area? Can a guy drive out on Hobart with a wheel house or just use a portable? Thanks for any info.
