Was changing the oil on my outboard today and didn't realize the seal from the old filter was still stuck on engine. Put on new filter and and when I started engine..... well you can guess what happened. Oil spewed out from filter. Now I am not an expert at all parts of an outboard so I'm asking you guys a couple questions.

1) will this ruin anything?
2) how do I clean all the oil up that leaked down inside?

I NEED HELP!!!! Please:;:huh

Thanks

Velveeta.... minus the ET
Take filter back off and make sure you get that other gasket off an put filter back on, fill motor back up with oil to operating level and you should be good.... You didn't hurt anything, just made a mess is all. Get a good de greaser and spray down the oil that flew all over..... should be about it, now you know for next time to double check it lol

No biggie, just a mess. I double O-ringed my 1st car, 1st oil change right on dad’s driveway. He was unimpressed, I haven’t forgotten since.

I did that on my old Mustang. Changed the oil at the in-laws house. Luckily there was no mess in his driveway. I took it for a spin and got a block and the idiot light came on. Left a nice oil slick down the road that could be seen for years. Left a reminder for everyone to give me shit when we got together there.

I'm in the club too. Double sealed the filter on the mini van a few years ago. Wife backed it out of the garage while "it made a funny noise". Big mess :) Won't ever do it again.
