Cop pull me over said I speeded up to 72 leaving town while in the 55 MPH zone....
Yes guys it will go 72 but not where I normally go with it.
He used a made up reason to stop me to get me a DUI just like the check points do.

so, cop had probable cause to stop you (speeding) although you don't usually roll that way. He put you through field sobriety tests due to the evidence that you had been drinking. you passed, he let you go. not only did it seem to work, but that's the way some here would prefer it happen every time, right?

a checkpoint is used to prevent drunk driving, as well as remove those that don't heed the (publicized) warning. some would rather let the driver shake the dice, drive until they get to their destination or crashes (the most common way leo finds probably cause to arrest for dui). meanwhile every foot the vehicle moves puts the driver, all other drivers and anyone else in the area at risk for bodily harm from the impaired driver. if we can take more of these drivers off the street before they hurt/kill others, by way of going through an occasional pre-announced checkpoint, then it seems to me Checkpoint Charlie is a reasonable tool to use in the list of dui-preventive strategies.
sorry, i don't understand the logic against it (i don't buy the "losing our rights" theory).

Only check point i have gone through in the last few years was in Canada and in Canada one does not want to get a DUI as it is a felony.

However one time I was leaving Devils Lake late at night and yes I was at a bar.
Cop pull me over said I speeded up to 72 leaving town while in the 55 MPH zone.
Well it was in my Dodge Cummings with a 4.10 rear end in it and to get going 72 is not normally were I drive at due to the increase in RPMs let alone in that distance. And I do watch myself when I leave the bars at night. Yes guys it will go 72 but not where I normally go with it.

So I went through all the standing on one walk, ect and that damn flash light in my eyes forever. Finally he said I need to blow or else he was writing a DUI. So I blew. Was .04. I could tell he was upset and started walking away. I said what about the speeding ticket. He just kept walking to his car.
He used a made up reason to stop me to get me a DUI just like the check points do.

Just like leaving your receiver on your back hitch. That is illegal and a reason to stop you.
Never thought of this but would say no unless something is really serious going on. db

Never heard this one before that leaving your receiver hitch in if not pulling a trailer is illegal. Is this a fact???? :;:huh

You are correct. The funding usually comes from federal grant dollars and are used for OT hours for crew that would like to gather in extra dough. The normal schedule of folks patrolling are not affected by a checkpoint unless they are stationed a mile away to catch anyone doing a turn around and leaving the scene.

No, your are incorrect. We received state/federal funds for seat belt enforcement, child restraint, etc, but we never received funds for DUI checkpoints.

Hope winter has been good to you and i assume you are down in the cold of one of them southern states watching our friend from way down south coming across. No/yes.

some time ago house bill 12-12 by a guy name Kekrey brougth forth a bill to outlaw receiver hitchs in one's rear hitch when not towing a trailer of some kind (he got tired of banging his knees).
So those laws get into ND Century code 39-21-whatever.

So i was told back then that it became law (and in those days I did trust all) and finally after a number of year decided today to look up(even though I never taken mine out and yes it hurts now and them).
Now us old guys do not lie but just get a little confuse now and then.
so after looking in chapter 39-21 I am not saying it is not the law but could not find it, well maybe it is not the law and that guy a long time ago was fibbing to this old guy. shame on him and so if I am wrong it is not my fault. db

Onpoint:
Yes I understand the good intent of the checkpoints, however as I do not trust our government and I find I only trust my wife and lately I have my concerns on that. db

sigh...

i won't get into it again like i have b4, cuz it just doesn't matter to anyone unaffected... suffice it to say that i personally know what can and does happen... what i will say is that if YOU take actions that effect others, YOU are responsible, and should be held accountable for the outcome... if only a jail term, fine, or settlement could bring someone back...

i drink more than most, but i can tell you i have not driven a vehicle after 2 beers or drinks in 25 years... i'm not saying i'm smarter or better than anyone on this site, just that i've lived the consequences, and at times adjust what i would like to do for the sake of others... i pray none of you ever have to make excuses or justify the actions of yourself, friends, or relatives, or mow around white crosses in the ditch...

Yes we are in Payson, AZ now. Roughly 100 miles NNE of Phoenix. You get the 4 seasons here and we just love it! Don't miss the cold, wind, or blowing snow! We do get snow occasionally but if any big amount it is usually gone in 2-5 days.

We always take ours out too. Moved a trailer one day and had to move another a day later so left it in overnight. Had to go downtown and wouldn't you know a guy driving a big Caddy wasn't paying attention at a stop light and rammed our pickup in the rear. Hit our hitch and pushed us ahead about 2'. Never hurt the pickup one bit but the front of his caddy didn't look very nice. Never set off his air bags either.
Hey i have been wrong or mistaken many times and not a big deal my friend!

+1!
they already do that in Minot; PD inside a corner building on school route looking out windows at the intersection with an intercept car down the street - you're on your phone's keyboard while stopped at the red light (or moving) and you'll get tagged in a couple of blocks. that "government reach" isn't much different than the checkpoint, perhaps... and i'm OK with both!

Maybe they should pull the Drivers License of the ones they catch texting and others things on their phone while driving. Only way they are going to learn. Hell fines don't deter them one bit. Especially when the fines are so cheap.
