Just curious which fishing tournament you guys are in this year?

i am fishing the Dakota Walleye Classic out of Beulah Bay again this year. I rounded up a new tournament partner this year and am pretty excited about it. I will be camping in Beulah bay the week leading up to the tournament.

Next year I want to do the Gov Cup, Van Hook Classic, and a local one on Buffalo Lodge.

Why is there a cap on entrants? The more people there is, the bigger the prize pool. The Governors Cup for example, should not have a cap to it. If somebody wants to fish it, they should be allowed to no matter how many people are in it.

Well 701, you get too many boats taking too many fish out of the system and then we're all headed to Wisconsin to fish.

Haha. I don't think that the number of fish coming out of the system is the reason. I would say they are creating a sort of novelty of having to get your app in as early as possible and feeling rushed to do so.

Never really been impressed with tourney fishing, I fish to eat. To each his own I guess, they may be fun if you got the equipment and partner, which I do not.

Unlimited would likely lead to lower overall participation. No sence of urgency to sign up and folks would plan other things or just plain forget. That coupled with the fact that tournament anglers are roughly on par with jet skiers for their annoyance factor to the rest of the lake means there's gotta be a limit.

This business of having tournaments every weekend all summer long on Sak, Oahe, and DL is going to eventually lead to a flotilla of non-tourney boats not allowing the tourney boats out of or back into the landing area.

I understand both parties sides on tournament fishing and weekend angling and how they overlap. To be totally honest the radical sides of each piss me off. Tournaments are gonna happen weekend anglers are gonna have to be polite and live with it! AND, weekend angling is gonna happen, tourney guys are gonna have to be polite and learn to live with it!

Tourney guys should be required to have lettering no less than 2' tall with the tourney directors cell number on it for every tourney. That should be in effect from the 1st day of pre-fishing until the end of the tourney. The worst behavior happens during pre-fishing when they think nobody's looking and there's no consequences.

I pretty much don't do tournys any more, not enough time and seems now days tourneys turn people a little inconsiderate, not all people in tourney but you definetly those that are a$$e$. I now fish for the enjoyment of it when I can get out. I may fish a tourney or two that supports veterens in the future since I am one.

I view "events" and/or fundraisers as different than Tournaments like the casino or chamber events, even if there are prizes/a purse involved.

Another reason to cap a tournament is because look at what happens on the launch... governor's cup tried to let all 252 boats go at once the first time I heard from a guy that was in it... and it was a shit show... now it's 3 flights and the smart ones hold off 1 min or so after the cannon sounds... oh and I'm in DWC and governor's cup this year... next year planning to do van hook classic with the wife and DWC and gov again maybe add a DL tournament too
