I heard of $6 a dozen this year. Same here. No Crawlers. Even the Angle Worms have been absent.

I suspect that if you're in the country, and haven't "seeded" your yard with crawlers, you might not find them because they're actually an invasive from Europe. Every town has them, but they're not common outside of town in many areas.
We got invaded with them about 4 yrs ago along with the Corp Of Eng. out by Pipestem. They started into my yard and there is an open field of about an acre in the middle of our cul-de-sac that we take turns mowing. You can't hardly even stay on the riding mower, just beats the hell out of your equip. I used a vibrating roller asphalt packer 3 yrs ago. Did wonders for it, going to see if I can get again this coming week.
Talked to the person that farms around the area about a bean roller. Said that it wouldn't do much

Definitely cheapest to buy a flat and split with friends. $2-3/doz.
I bought a flat once from Cabelas...never again. The ones I catch can be cut in half or even thirds and still be bigger and better that the shit ass crawlers they sent me.

I was walking across a friend's yard with him to go see his new boat. He's about the same age as my parents. I'd never been to his house before and noticed those "lumps" Guy mentioned then asked him about nightcrawlers in his yard and if he caught his own. His reply:

"I learned a long time ago that a flat of crawlers costs the same as a trip to the Chiropractor."

I went out the last 2 days to my regular spots hoping to pick some up and bummed to only see 1. Im sure its got to be a temperature thing. But I don't get how later on you get a couple inches and they are all up I'm guessing so they don't drown. We got 5 inches of rain cold or not how can they still stay down?

The retractable bristles would make it more difficult to extract from the urethra.

Uncle Mike taught me this in Florida when I was little. His method was to drive a sharpened board in the ground and rub another across the top like a box call. Always wondered if this worked elsewhere as Fla soil is extremely sandy.

An electric probe works way better here, even when it's dry.
