Great to win $2M, but how disappointing to be one number away from the jackpot.

Also find it odd/disappointing that matching 4 numbers is only worth $100. I don't play all the time, but the best I've ever done is 2 numbers plus the powerball. Seems like 4 numbers is almost a unicorn; never mind 5 numbers.

Congrats to the winner. That'll take the bite outta things they've got to worry about for a while.

2mil, even after taxes that will get a person on the Charlie Sheen path, Hookers and Blow.
When you think of it if you had roughly 1.25-1.5mil after taxes most people could have that burned up within a year I bet. Hopefully the winner is someone that could use it.
Congrats to the winner. That'll take the bite outta things they've got to worry about for a while.

I hope they use it WISELY. 1st payoff all debt!! Even the so-called rich could owe more than that. Just pay everything off (or down), then WAIT. Let it marinate a little for fks sake.

Or just go live in a fancy hotel, buy/finance a brand new big pickup, and go to the bar and eat out every meal while living in the motel.

30yrs ago, if you won that much you could've walked away from work forever. Today, like I said, it'll take the bite outta things you need to worry about. That's assuming you can let it start to work for you and resist the temptation to churn through it all. Done properly, one could probably lop 10+yrs off the end of their career.

Or, as you said, you could buy a nice house, a bunch of brand new depreciating assets like cars, boats, RV's, ATV's, etc. and have it all spent in 12-18Mo and wonder how you're going to afford the taxes on the house, the Ins on everything, and the maint/licensing on all the toys.

Yup basically you're getting a million free and clear. Easily spent quick if don't watch it. Imagine someone trying to actually invest it.

Having a chunk that large earning interest you could access before 59.5yrs old sans tax penalty would be mighty handy.

Just watch for the person around town who out of nowhere has a new F350/camper/sparkly boat/SxS. Most people who come into money unexpectedly cant help themselves and spend it all quickly on depreciating assets.

A person should pay off all debt other than mortgage if you have a low interest rate, splurge on one nice new vehicle or toy and invest the rest to be able to retire early.

I believe the best bet is to pay off credit cards if you have that, then stuff it away like you never even won it.
Give it a few years, check your place in the life cycle and maybe retire a few years early.
A million invested and left to fester for 7+ years will be way more life changing then the new sparkly boat today.

Word is it was some one passing through not local.

200k pays every thing I owe including paying for the kids school after that I would have bought a little land and built some ponds maybe 50 k and the rest would have been invested and making money.
