Does anyone ever get in trouble for catching and cooking fish while ice fishing? I overnight camp and like to fry fish. I understand eating fish does not reset the limit. The limit is set. But if you are out in remote areas for a few days, what do you do with the remains? Its illegal to put them in the water but if you collect them over a day, you suddenly appear to be over a daily limit. Are people just dumping the carcasses in the hole and its just not enforced or talked about? Am I supposed to make a daily trip to a public dumpster or leave it on the bank for predators? Or are we supposed to seperate old carcasses and the warden will just take our word for it that those are previous days limits? In some states like Florida, its illegal to even have fillets on the water.

Couldn't you just put carcasses in a bag and leave it on the ice until you leave? That way the fish would be evidence towards a limit and if they're in the bag that's the trash that you're packing out.

Id assume people do that. But how do you prove the fish in the trash are from previous day limits? I think what most people are doing is deep sixing their carcasses.

Take a photo of the fish before you eat them…it will have a time/date associated with it.

Drive to town and throw your garbage each day.. most ND lakes have a town within 15 miles

If you feel like you are “really out there” and are catching any kind of fish, good chance other people will be out there too. Not many secrets in our great state. Just go throw your garbage in a can each day.. I think you are only allowed 1 day limit while out on the water no matter how many days you are out there.

I think a daily dump run is probably the safest thing to do. But if you read the original post, it is absolutely clear that the daily limit is recognized no matter how many days you are out there.

From what I understand at no time can you have over your daily limit in your possession while fishing multiple days. Extra catch has to be on shore I believe up to your possession limit.

supposing you have a camper on shore with a freezer , if Walleye limit is 5 and possession 10. I wonder if it's legal to clean your 5 one day at the camper , bag some up and bring them on the ice for fish fry the next day and be legal with 5 and some cubed up and soaking in batter

Thought I read somewhere that your daily limit starts over at midnight if you're spending the night on the water.. As long as you keep the remains separate as proof that you do have a carcass for each fish you should be OK. Check with G&F for verification.
